The NSX compact scopes are quite a bit lighter. I run a NSX 3.5 -12 on a 700 7mm-08 AI. The gun weighs 7.5 pounds loaded and ready to go. In my opinion the gun is very well balanced.

pretty close. A marathon running former recon marine. Force Recon, sounds like you're in very good company. Had to look it up on the map to see where you were talking about. Looks like an interesting trip. Good luck and be safe.

Pressure Signs Early/Well before MAX *AND W/Factory Ammunition*
300RUM replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Do you have a reference weight for your scale? If not put one of those 160 gr bullets on your scale and see if the scale thinks it weighs 160 gr. If your scale is somehow off you could be loading a larger amount of powder than you think you are. -
For that trip I would be hoping my huckleberry was Doc Holliday.

Are the big signs that say "no motorized wheeled vehicle off road game recovery" still at points where you turn off the hwy into 5B south? My father and I got a laugh out of them. We happen to own a bulldozer. It would be fun to sit by that sign with the dozer and your own "non-wheeled game recovery" sign and wait for the FS to wander by. I am sure that would be an interesting conversation.

Can anyone help in 4B Mon to Thu? Call Tom, Lv2hnt, 480 760 3868. Also see his post under Tag Donation. I can be reached at 480-993-5507 Lee
-
One thing Tom didn't mention is that he does have a hunter for the 7w tag also. 3 for 3 on filling mid hunt donations in 2 days. Now that is impressive.

Looks like the wood cutting excuse was a bit exaggerated. Interestingly it does say they can use a road that's closed on the mvum as off-road travel to recover wood
-
Maybe those who harvest meat should band together and file a discrimination based lawsuit because they are not treated equally to those harvesting wood. Be interesting to see USFS defend themselves against that one. The rules on public land should apply equally to all users without discrimination against some groups of users.

How do you tell if a barrel has been shot out?
300RUM replied to Rock30golf's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I've shot a 300 RUM since the round was introduced and I've burnt up a few barrels over the years. It's a gradual process when they go. Groups slowly get bigger, Flyers more common. It's hard to imagine someone would keep shooting a worn-out barrel to get to the point of 6 to 12 inch groups at 100 yards -
This thread was started at 10:46 AM yesterday. At 9:47 AM this morning I was on the phone with a veteran from Sierra Vista who Tom had on his way up to meet me. Just before tackling this one he had gotten a unit 1 tag that had been donated the day before reassigned. Now he is working on the 7W tag. Tom busts his butt to get this all done on short notice. If you ever get the chance let Tom, aka Lv2hnt, what an awesome job he does.

Congratulations. Really good to hear you guys got one. I've been wondering how you were doing on that hunt.

I've done hunts 5B South in 6A and followed those Maps. I was definitely in the minority.

Arizona elk Society founded tag for the young lady they were trying to help. There's another organization I believe is called oOutdoor Life For All that may be able to help transfer the tag
-
I believe the Arizona elk Society was looking for a tag that could be donated to a young lady. I'll check on that option and let you know.

Sharp looking bull. Congrats.
-
What unit? I shot one about 25 years ago in 5B South that could be his baby brother. Emphasis on baby. That right antler is incredible.
-
It is a 4B tag. I'm already in the unit and ready to go if Tom can find a vet. Anyone interested in helping out?
-
PM sent Just talked to Tom, he thinks there is a good chance he can get it matched to a vet and get them some help.

My partner donated his sheep tag mid hunt. Will send you the number for Hunts for Heroes hunt coordinator
-
as important as hunting is there are still things that are more important. Last year my partner had to abandon his Bighorn sheep hunt because his mother was found unresponsive and rushed to the ER. Go see your father then go get yourself a big bull. When you come back you can tell him the story and hopefully it'll make him light up.
-
My bet is after you take that day off you will return more enthusiastic and ready to go. Good luck.

This morning I got up at 0300, got my gear together and drove down the rim to answer a request for assistance packing out an elk. We met up and headed into the Mazatzal wilderness. As the sun was rising and we were standing over the bull it occurs to to me that the individual who posted the request for assistance has an avatar that is a photo of him leading a pack horse ?????? It's all good Edge. That was so easy the next time I drop an elk I'm calling you to coordinate the pack out.

The opportunity to sit down with a G&F biologist, have him open up his laptop bring up a topo map of the unit with the flight path of his helicopter and markers were photos were taken and then show you all of those photos is BS? I guess opinions vary.
-
I was there last year, my partner had a tag. For anyone attending, when the presentations are over do not leave. Go to the back of the room and talk to the AZGFD employees. We got to talk to the wildlife manager for the unit and the biologist who just did an aerial survey of the unit. They were very helpful.
