    Last minute advice...

Make sure you have a portable propane Lantern in case you have to break down an animal out in the field at night
  3. Sexy? I got to fondle some of the parts when I was up there. Was that kind of like groping his wife?

    Shot the Wrong Antelope Buck!!

Based on previous experience I judge NM Antelope hunts on whether or not you can still walk once they're over. Sounds like you did pretty good. Congrats on the goat.

    Ground blind vs natural blind

I believe you also have to take the dog to qualify for the circus music.

    Blind?

That is a good question. My best guess is a Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel that has birth defects. The body was about the correct size and build but eyes and ears are missing. The cold coloring on the head was partially there and there were very faint signs of the striping on the side and back of the body. It is amazing he is surviving. It seems like other squirrels help him out.
  7. I mentioned one of these in a reply and got a PM asking for it. Figured I would put them up here for everyone to use. Both were very good Bear #1 INGREDIENTS 1. • 4 dried ancho chiles, stemmed, seeded • 2 cups boiling-hot water • 1 medium onion, quartered • 3 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup or brown sugar • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice • 3 teaspoons salt • 4 - 6 lb bear • 1 teaspoon black pepper • 1 tablespoon olive oil • 1/2 cup brewed coffee PREPARATION 1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 2. Soak ancho chiles in boiling-hot water until softened, about 20 minutes, then drain in a colander set over a bowl. Transfer ancho chiles to a blender and purée with onion, garlic, maple syrup, lime juice, and 1 teaspoon salt. 3. Pat bear dry and sprinkle with pepper and remaining 2 teaspoons salt. Heat oil in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking, then sear meat on each side. Transfer as browned to a roasting pan just large enough to hold meat. 4. Carefully add chile purée to fat remaining in skillet (use caution, since it will splatter and steam) and cook over moderately low heat, stirring frequently, 5 minutes. Add reserved chile soaking liquid (or 1 1/2 cups water) and coffee and bring to a boil, then pour over meat (liquid should come about halfway up sides of meat). 5. Cover roasting pan tightly with foil and braise in middle of oven until very tender, about 3 hours. Skim fat from pan juices and serve with ribs. Cooks' note: • Improve in flavor if braised 2 days ahead. Cool, uncovered, then chill, surface covered with parchment paper or wax paper and roasting pan covered with foil. Remove any solidified fat before reheating. Bear #2 2 to 4 lbs Bear cleaned 1/2 tsp Salt 1/2tsp Black pepper 2 tbsp Thyme 1 head Garlic (roasted if available) 2 Onion (sweet if available) 1 cup Soy sauce 3 tbsp Brown sugar Preheat oven to 450. Mix all dry ingredients and sprinkle evenly on meat. Sear meat on each side in a hot pan until lightly browned. Pour soy sauce into baking dish about the size of the meat and then place meat in dish. Add onions, garlic and soy sauce. Cover. Roast at 450 for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 250. Check with meat thermometer to determine when done (abour 30 min per pound) 140:well, 130:medium, 120:rare. Can also be made in a crock pot (2 hours per pound); however, meat will be well done throughout.

    Cartridge Collection

Nothing on that list I need. Currently unpacking my collection, I think i figured out a display rack where they can't tip over. Once I have a list of extras I will run it by you. No trade required. When I was real active about collecting several big collectors gave me some nice stuff, without a trade. Their only request was that I do the same sometime in the future. You are in Queen Creek?

Congrats, that is an awesome buck.
  11. Okay, I just watched the video again on the Kifaru website. I see what you are saying. Curse you! I thought I had finally made up my mind. Making up your mind and changing your mind is a vicious circle. I sometimes do it to the point where I get dizzy.

    24-A Monster Bear!

The problem with shooting a big bear? You have to carry it out. It's amazing how heavy a head & hide can be. That one must have been brutal.

    Speaking of Wolves

If the introduced cattle and the re-introduced wolf simply can not find a way to get along why not get rid of both and increase the elk herds?

What to do after snake bite?

From the Arizona poison and drug information center First Aid In many cases, first aid performed in the field by the patient or companions only causes additional injury. The best first aid kit for snakebite includes your car keys and cell phone. Get help quickly if you are bitten If you are bitten, Don't use ice or electricity. Don't use constricting bands or suction. Using "extractors" does not remove a significant amount of venom and the process can increase tissue damage. Don't give alcohol or medication. Don't wait to see if you get symptoms. Don't try to catch the snake. The snake may bite again. Capture will delay your getting to the hospital. Treatment will be the same no matter which kind of rattlesnake bit you. Do relax and move as little as possible. Do remove tight clothing, shoes or jewelry from the bitten limb. DO GO to the nearest medical facility immediately.

Buddy needs help, razor down off FR300

It is just one of those situations where you pay it forward and hope when you are the one in trouble someone does the same for you. USFS deserves a round of applause here for getting them back to camp. Can you imagine a 12 mile hike with a 4 month old and 2 year old?

I have not seen them but the most likely cause is improper heat treating during manufacturing that left the part either to soft or to brittle. I have seen a number of fastener failures on Polaris products resulting from improper heat treating. Guess # 2 is loose lug nuts.Reason I asked is if the problem isn't addressed it'll happen again. Are there after market rims on it? Once we worked out the details for plan A he was fairly confident he could pull it off alone, which he did. I never had to go over to the razor so I didn't see the rims. Plan B was to lash a tongue to it and turn it into a trailer. I would have had to load up some junk and head over for that one.

All I have had to do so far sit under a shade tree, sip my iced tea and give a little advice. He got the two studs the dealer had in stock and is looking for the 27mm socket you need to get the hub off. If he gets it he thinks he can go replace the studs by himself. If he need help I'll head in. If he doesn't find the socket I have it here. If the studs won't drive by hand we have a press. I've had my share breakdowns out in the sticks. I Have got his back, we'll get it out.

Issue is all the studs sheared on one hub. Family is all back at toy hauler and he is headed to the dealer for parts. Plan A is to replace the studs and drive it out.
