Haven't seen one... Sounds like I was at a different arrastra. When I found it I had hiked west of the midnight owl. One Landmark I remember was the old mixer drum that used to be up on poles like a tower. Last time I saw it somebody had cut it down to salvage the poles.
-
Was there an old drum off a cement truck in the general area of the arrastra? Probably to the SW but it has been a long time.
-
Close enough. But near the junction of Eddy and San Damingo Wash and Anderson Mill. There's another arrarstra about 1 1/2 mile north. Is Anderson mill the one with all the old marsten matting for stairs? My parents worked the Midnight Owl mine for collectible minerals years back. I used to tag along and go quail hunting. I found an old arrastra west of it once. Could be the one you mention as 1 1/2 miles north.

The smooth walkway around the center makes me think possibly a human powered arrastra but why the wall around it?

As she grows keep in mind that if the youth stock becomes too short all you need to do is purchase a full size short action left hand 700 stock and swap the action into it.

6.5 Rifle Build/Assembly Update!!!
300RUM replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yea, I'm guilty. When I build a rifle it is just another 700. Nice job on putting together something a little more unusual. -
Have u tried gunbroker? Good suggestion. I needed a donor rifle for a LH 700 action a few years back. Couldn't find one around town. It was easily available on gunbroker. jakehaffey, I note you are in Chandler. I f you purchase through gunbroker you will need a local FFL to accept the shipment. Try Healy Arms at McClintock and Basline. He is a CWT member and I am sure he would give you a good deal. He may also be able to order what you want from a wholesaler.

I forgot about pinning barrels to a short barrel to make it permanently 16 or more. I was thinking of barrels that had pinned brakes to comply with no threaded muzzle laws some states have
-
If the pinned break was removed would the diameter of the barrel underneath it be large enough to thread for the suppressor?
-
I'm partially right handed partially left handed and left eye dominant. I shoot rifles left handed. I carry and draw a pistol right-handed but aim with my left eye. If her brain is telling her to shoot a rifle left handed there is a reason. Don't fight it. I carried right-handed bolt rifles for many years before left handed models became more common. If there's a rifle you like that's not available in a youth model look into purchasing a shorter stock or having the stock shortened.

How deep were those Bergers seated into the case? The one print I've seen showed a throat (W measurement on the print) of 2.1067- that was measured from the rear of the case as the 'datum'? If you want to specify a longer throat how is that accomplished? (Curiosity is getting the best of me). Is the smith taking a dummy round for measurements and then reamer the chamber and then ream a longer throat? They make separate reaters that pilot off the bore and will increase the throat depth after a standard chamber reamer has been used.

I've done a 30 cal Barrel with a 9/16 thread. The catch is there's just not a lot of break choices in a 9/16 thread.
-
The Brake needs a shoulder at the end of the thread seat against. With a 0.628 muzzle if you use a 5/8 or 0.625 thread there will not be much of a shoulder at the end of the thread.

Since yesterday when I post there is nothing in the body, none text at all.

Maybe your boss figured out you are not working. -
I have taken a coues with a .223 firing a 64 gr softpoint and it worked just fine so a 22-250 should definately work. Years ago we always used to pick up leftover deer tags down south. There was a heard that always hung out on a thick oak and juniper hillside. We just couldn't seem to get them working cross canyon. I grabbed an AR-15 carbine, headed across the canyon and began still hunting the game trails. 1 shot later I came back with a buck over my shoulder. This was when I was young, stupid, full of energy and would actually carry a whole deer out. I have learned better methods since then.

Do you have a copy of the print you could email to me? What rifle / action / magazine combo were you using when you had feeding problems? Did you try any aftermarket followers? My RUM was finicky but a Wyatt's follower solved the problem. DSE or Big/Bust did you guys have specifics on your chamber set up in your 22-250ai?? I have built a few 700 chambered for AI cartridges. The feeding problem relates to the magazine but the cause might not be something you expect. My first attempts to correct it were various adjustments to the feed lips. There was some improvement but it was still unreliable. Then I caught on. By forming the case to Ackley I had removed most of the taper from the case but the magazine body still had taper. This combination allowed the cartridges in the magazine to pivot off each other kind of like a see saw and cause erratic feeding. I spread the back of the magazine and filed the edges of the joint to reduce the back dimension of the magazine then bent the tabs out so it would still fit tight in the action. I took the magazine down to 0.010 taper on the body. With this modification to the magazine I can reliably cycle 7mm-08AI through the rifle as fast as I can cycle the bolt. I do expect the smaller the neck diameter is in proportion to the case body the harder it will be to get the rifle tuned to cycle reliably.

I believe you are mistaken. The creature in question is to well dressed and probably smells way to nice to be Hillary.

About 25 years ago I had a pair of Warne throw lever QD rings on a rifle. I expect the design you are looking at is similar. The design worked but I have never bought another set. I did feel sometimes that the clamps did not grip as tight as I would like. I do not recall any zero shift issues because of that. In the end the QD just was not really necessary for my needs. I used weaver for a while and now use picatinny. Just loosen the clamp nut and they come off plenty fast if you need to work on the rifle and want the scope out of harms way. Do you have a need to be able to remove the scope in the field without tools?

Were you hunting out by Palo Verde?

But they can cross the road. Let me tell ya.......it's no fun hitting one at 65mph. Talk about serious damage on a guy's truck! I can still see and hear the impact as if it were yesterday. This happened in 1989. Think I'd rather get hit by that goose! Lol I hear you on the road crossing. I have had to stop and assist at a number of elk vs vehicle accidents over the years. Some very serious injuries and even fatalities. I have had a number of close calls myself both in my own vehicle and at work driving a tractor trailer. Having to lock up the brakes at 65 MPH pulling double trailers is never fun. I have been very fortunate and never hit one. One night my windshield suddenly exploded and there was something in the passenger seat of the tractor. Owls can do some damage to. I'm sure it would have been real ugly had he impacted the driver side.

All I got to say is that I am so glad that elk can't fly.

I always thought the old bridge over the Haysampa by Morristown looked interesting. One day on my way back from a delivery to Bagdad I walked down to take a closer look at it. Do you ever just cringe when you approach an old bridge like that with a loaded train? Oh yea, there were cat tracks in a puddle not far from the bridge.

That last picture really wraps it up. So much fun and excitement you just need to take a break and re-charge.

Payson sucks. You would hate it. I suppose it is easy to have that perspective when you are on the wrong end of everyone's toilet.

It will be the tailing dump for the Magma #9 & #10 shafts above Oak Flat. The material will be brought up from around 6000 ft underground. The tailing pile could theoretically reach the size of Picketpost mountain.
