A few more trades I'd consider. 38-55 Sharps copy, Browning high wall, etc, with a good pair of Tangent sights. A single shot benchrest rifle in 6PPC or 6mmBR.

Gonna go back on my AR soon if this doesn't move because I sold my Athlon Ares BTR 2.5-15x50. BTW this scope is a great medium magnification AR scope.

Not knowing any better, I took my boy, at the time he was 14 too, on a "lug a buddy" trip for two days for Albacore. Lug a buddy means two people go for the price of one. Sounds enticing but they only do that trip when the moon is full and guess what happened, the fishing sucked. We had a good time but I'd rather pay regular price for a trip with better bites going on. I think I was into it about $1200 for 40 pounds of fish and a free boat ride

A scope over looked that would be great for hunting is the Athlon Helos 6-24x50. The reason I say so is it has locking turrets and they did a excellent job with the click feel, the tension and spacing, and the turret doesn't get hung up when pushing down to lock. Sucks when a guy is walking around and the turret gets turned - especially the windage! it's only $570 MAP. I like it better than the PST. Spend the extra money saved to practice with which far exceeds buying expensive scopes hoping that'll make up for inexperience.

With long range session $925, without $875.

It's a first focal plane/FFP scope so a mil is a mil on any magnification. Conversely a second focal plane/SFP scope has the reticle stadia values correct on only one magnification. So if you are holding off for wind in for example a moa scope on any other magnification besides that "one magnification", which is usually the max mag on the scope, your wind hold in moa will be off. It goes the same way with the reticle in a SFP scope with elevation as well.
