SUNSETS pics...
bullwidgeon replied to Apache7mm's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Sitting at the head of Sam Canyon in the Fishooks/Gila Mountains all the way up on the res fencline, looking out across the valley over Bylas and the sun is setting behind Mt Turnbull. December 2004 hunting the unit 27/28 late coues tag. It sprinkled snow on me later that night on the way back down the canyon to camp. Bret M. -

Before the tigers and bears ate them all, you could road hunt you one up off the Young road most days. Just drive real slow in the morning with the window down and barrel poked out. Too bad they all got ate, it used to be so good in there Bret M.

You boys got alot to learn about "Chuck Adams-ing" some fish. The above is a proper example. FYI Green Mountain tank, Juniper Tank and Stove tank all looked like they had had partial fish kills a few weeks ago. We caught a ton of little fish out of Bobcat but the water looked bad, maybe it will keep raining and rain harder before too long.... Bret M.

The number 1 buck is Orozco's. This is either #2 or #3. I am not sure yet. My dad arrowed it in January while it was chasing some does around acting crazy . Bret M. -

Is there any roads in unit 22 I can drive around on and chuck empty beer cans out and hope to see a carp cross the road? Preferrably a road with not alot of trees around in case said carp is running and I have to take multiple shots at him with the window down and Willy Nelson blasting on the radio? I don't like it when they run off into the trees. Thanks in advance. Bret M.

Now I know who got my tag! Congrats go get a smoker! That should be a good elk tag too! Bret M.

Most of the sheds I find are in really thick and brushy areas. I think of them almost as bedding areas. Places I would not frequent if I was hunting for deer. You would always want to be glassing into those areas or around them and not busting through them if you were trying to kill one instead of find his sheds. I have always thought that they don't move around all that much over all, they just brush up real tight for the most part and as result drop their sheds in the brush alot... Bret M.

I am not for waiting periods. I would rather have at least a chance to go elk hunting every year in AZ as slim as it may be then to know I have no chance for "X" amount of years.

My buddy was also looking for one. He did some research and decided on a Tikka, now he is just waiting for his wife's approval. I have a Tikka in .223 and it drives tacks. Good luck with whatever you decide, he was having a problem finding new factory guns in that chamber... Bret M.

coues hunts in 33 and 36A elk archery bull in 1 and 27 Antelope I am not sure. I traded an uncle my antelope bonus points for his elk points. And left the antelope choices up to him. Sheep in my backyard 24B and then unit 41 DB, 39E is UGGGGLY. Dinker rams only. Even the "big ones" are packing 13 inch bases and 32 inch horns...

We saw them every day this year both hunting and scouting down there in 36A. I killed a deer about 50 yards above one of those ginormous illegal trails. If you do not want to deal with illegals then you need to think about putting in for units North of I-10 and I-8. Everything South of that line is pretty much gone to the birds as it were concerning UDA's and will probably be that way and worse for a long time to come... Bret M.

I found some elk sheds while fishing on the San Carlos I couldn't keep this weekend. The fishing was pretty good and I jumped a pretty good bull that was bedded, he looked like a good one but I am not sure I would have payed $30K to shoot him. Bret M.

"I just know some last minute rhinestone cowboy with a pink Stetson and a pair of lavender Justin Ropers is going to pull my Kaibab Carp tag and my unit 1 Bull tag too!" Yep, Lark has lots of bonus points this year, he is due! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Bret M.

I am pretty sure dove hunters will not care how many archers are staking out tanks. Archers are usually quiet and hidden, doves will still come in. Deer on the other hand may be another story, especially with round after round going off . Bret M.

Yeah the bears were out. We heard one rolling rocks while we were backpack camped way down there . The next morning I cut fresh tracks on a sandbar about 200 yards down the river from where we camped. We never did see him though. He looked like he had a good foot on him, about 6 inches across the front paw. Knowing from packing a digital scale over the last 4 years we have been blessed with catching a few between 3-4 pounds and we average about 10-15 a day between 1.0-2.5 pounds once we get way back in there away from road access points. We still have yet to catch the elusive 5 pounder and we have broke some tremendous fish off but I guess that's what keeps us going back.... Bret M.
