  1. I bought the 25 wssm two years ago and love it. my son made a perfect shot on a whitetail down south last year at 498 yards, not much hold over on this caliber. I think this is a perfect gun for whitetail. Hardly any kick. The awsome thing about super short mags. is how fast and uniform the powder burns inside the cartridge. this makes for great accuracy. I shoot win. ballistic silvertip bullets. you can use the lower grain for varmits and higher grain for deer. Look at a ballistic table, you will be amazed. Best price on bullets I found was at the sportsmans warehouse. I have shot the 25-06 also, I feel the 25 wssm out performed it. Great long distance caliber. didn't mean to ramble on, I hope this helps.

  2. Saw my first indications of rut activity yesterday. A 3x3 mulie w/ 2 does. Stalked to w/in 40 yards and spooked out a herd of 3 whitetail does I didn't even know were there. Of course they took the mule deer with 'em. They were w/in 10 yards of the mule deer. I wonder if those does were with him too, or it was just coincidence that they were all together? They all left in the same direction. Could be that big boy is fixin to make some hybrids. Wonder if those would get better fuel mileage than normal deer? ;)

I know this is off the subject of rutting deer but i noticed you are from superior. I have a javalina tag in unit 37b, any idea on where to start looking for pigs? heard maybe try the mineral mountains.

  3. Thanks for the feedback. How have you found the panning? With the pistol grip it seems unless you are really steady when you pan you will pan in both the horizontal and vertical plains - has anyone had problems maintaining good grids when glassing?

for awsome panning, you need the panning attachment. you can obtain this item from jim white or the outdoorsman. jim white has information on coueswhitetail.com you will get the best grid panning with the panning attachment. weight, only 3.6 oz. just screw it to your pan head and you are good to go. you will pick up more game then ever.

  4. I have been using the pistol grip from the outdooorsman located in phoenix. have had great results. its small lightweight and doubles as a gun rest. the hook on the pistol grip allows you to rest your hand while glassing. i have used the bogan, but the outdoorsman blows it out the water. smoothest pistol grip you can find.

  5. hello, i'm new to the forum. I was hunting near Benson in oct. on a deer hunt and my hunting partner glassed up three lions. they were watching a doe and fawn. They tried for the doe first but ended up killing the fawn. my partner watched the whole thing unfold. We made our way over to the lions and took two. On that hunting trip we saw a total of nine lions within 7 miles. I have a friend in benson who said he can see the impact the lions are having on the deer herds. Hay onlycouse, were you in unit 32 or 33?

I was in area 32. I believe I heard you talking about the lions on the radios. Just so you all know, looking back on it now, it makes sense that they didnt have a tag and thats why they left it but it really didnt occur to me at the time. I guess I was just caught up in the moment and I really wish I had gotten thier plate.

My buddy may have run into the same people. That is why I asked the unit you were in. How did you do in 32 for deer? I really have taken a liking to unit 32 and 33.

  6. KatKiller i am from St.David down by Benson and have said for years that our herds down there are being killed of badly by lions. If you ask me 30B and 34B is a prime example to over hunted and to many Lions. I think the game and fish count on lions is a bunch of hog wash if you ask me.

I emailed the game and fish about all the mountain lion we saw and asked if they step when too many lions are in area, they said by allowing us to hunt lions is there way of controlling them. it was a lame reply. I talked with a guy who also said unit 34 has been hit by lions hard.
