No hunting on State land , Locked Gates ?
high rise hunter replied to marlin's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I ran into this same scenario in NM last season in an area with a large piece of BLM that's limited access is entirely through state land sections. All three sections of state-owned land had "No Trespassing" signs posted on gates by different ranches, some locked some not. I followed up with the NMDGF when I got home. Sure enough those sections are indeed open to the public and should not have been posted. It completely thrashed my plans for hunting that specific area. Now I'm antsy to get back there and see what these ranchers are collaborating to hide. π -

Well since AZGFD wouldn't take my money this morning I sent it over to UDWR instead. π Loooong shot apps are in.. -

high rise hunter replied to Adicted's topic in The Campfire
Getting close! I'm gonna guess it will start sometime around 8:12AM. You know once the AZGFD employee in charge gets logged into his computer only after grabbing a coffee and shooting the sh*t in the break room for 10 mins. -
Very interesting, a 2020 date push back leading up to a bigger 2021 push back. (I don't rifle hunt so hadn't looked that closely). I agree with you, 2021 will definitely see a huge jump in applicants. I still think 2020 could see additional applicants (like you said those that haven't dug as deep or those jumping on the "last year of CO quality bucks" train). Time will tell.
-
The later rifle dates take effect this coming season (2020). I would error on the opposite side expecting a traditionally 6 point hunt to take 7 this time around.
-
You can have fantastic deer hunts in CO with 1 point! Any of those units along the continental divide hold big bucks.

Using salt and cameras to locate a specific buck
high rise hunter replied to LonePineOutdoors_AZ's topic in Coues Biology
I just got a few salts established. I order this shovel from Amazon. It's cheap, poor quality but light weight and got the job done. $8 well spent. Folding Shovel -
Was out Saturday morning in the desert and the mules were rutting hard. Lots of lip curling and running does hard. Headed south in the AM for one last (two-day) hurrah after Coues deer π€

2019 fall cow bison hunt in the books!
high rise hunter replied to couesdeerhntr's topic in Buffalo Hunting
Congrats! Awesome story and thanks for sharing! -
How did your hunt go @Speedy? It was tough this year with an early rut. Saw some good bucks, not much for rut action and of course once again wasn't able to connect. π Not down and out yet, now that I live in this favorite state of mine I still have lots of opportunity in 2020 to make it happen! GPG! I'm stressing like crazy for this afternoon showdown.

AGFD - Arizona's waterfowl, quail seasons flying by
high rise hunter replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
This bums me out. I FINALLY bagged my first AZ ducks of the season this week. Only took me 3 months π -
That blonde is a beaut! Never hunted bears before but excited to have the excuse to get out with bow in hand, explore some new country, run some cams, maybe even pick up a shed or two. π

Wow that is freakin' RAD! Awesome find. Has anyone seen Coues with white patches on their sides or in unusual places? (Maybe considered piebalds??) -
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to your next videos. π

Desert Zone Waterfowl Opens Oct. 18
high rise hunter replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Newly translated in AZ I went out (Lake Pleasant) for opener; didn't see a single duck. Not to let that spoil a perfect day, I found this beautiful fox and knocked a few quail down. -
Does anyone know if game processors will "rent" temporary freezer space? I'm in a unique situation where I'm between places (moving from Pasadena, CA --> Scottsdale, AZ) and doing back-to-back archery hunts first in NV for mule deer then over to NM for elk. If I'm fortune enough to fill my tag in NV I need to find a temporary place to store/freeze meat. I much prefer to do my own processing.

Awesome, will do and thank you PRDATR. If this is the same group of butchers from Minnesota, they're fantastic.

Hunting the gullies in the flats
high rise hunter replied to broadhead's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Deer will certainly run up and down the gullies using them almost as a road system. You'll have to do further scouting to really pinpoint the best ambush areas. Sounds like you're getting close though!
