36B Road Trip , anticipating the 23rd.

I prefer the dear being so..... -
Fixed it for you, lark.

Long range hunting is the new fad, that's pretty clear. What is also clear is the use of the heavy, long, high BC bullets have taken center stage. I'm guilty, as I used a 180 .284" Berger Hybrid last year. I, personally as not impressed with the results. Deer took several shots, although with the way the weather was, I can not articulate where each shot hit, minus the neck shot that did zero damage other then knocking him down for about 45 seconds. This year I have switched to the 180 Lapua Scenar. Why? I am not sure as they are supposed to be a little more stout then the Berger, but there is a massive thread on another forum with TONS of critters that died due to the Scenar. Has any one had any issues with the big heavies NOT performing like they are supposed to? I'm mainly interested in the reliability of the big heavies to open on our little coues deer.(not much there to make a big, heavy for caliber bullet expand if no bone is hit) Not so worried about how they work on elk.

Awesome! Was the hide still good?

Any back story on the dead hombres? Obviously they really got lit up!

Look at using the 120 TTSX.

Digging the new '16 lineups so far!
firstcoueswas80 replied to rageinthesage's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I'm still good with my $200, 2006 bowtech. 475 gr arrow, 275-280 (I forgot which) fps. -
Nothing super super cool, but I've got a Remington 721 marked 270 wcf, and an early win 94 30-30 marked 30 wcf.

The new anti venom used by hospitals is called Crofab and is 60k per dose, an average sized male human will require 2 doses. Right now, I dont think it is covered by any insurance. So you will be out of pocket Here is my favorite snake pic I've taken. He came over a dead branch 1.5 yards away from me when I was sitting in the ground during a coyote stand. His 5 foot skin looks nice on the wall image.jpeg That's probably the biggest rattle I've seen!

Saw a solid 3 footer Saturday night at work.

Testing the waters, camp trailer rental
firstcoueswas80 replied to stoney4325's topic in The Campfire
Buddy does this with his trailer. I borrowed it on my last December tag, was a nice trailer. Wife and kids used it last December.... complete POS now, in only 3 years. -
I've got one that's a great rifle just sitting there collecting dust. ... I just can't get myself to part with it. Good luck in your search, they're great rifles.

Building my 6.5 Creedmoor chassis
firstcoueswas80 replied to azhuntnut's topic in Long Range Shooting
Serious question here, because I've seen a bunch of builds like that. Why build a bolt action rifle to look a lot/exactly like a AR15 style rifle? -
I dig it. A no nonsense, get chit killed rifle. Sling 160 accubonds or 150 scenars and fill an ark!

Lark has the first 7/08 ever made.

Scope height is a big issue. What we're you using to determine wind speed?

Hunting on a Clean vs Fouled Bore (continued)
firstcoueswas80 replied to rossislider's topic in Long Range Shooting
I shoot a decent amount before the hunt. I always end on a positive note, and leave my gun exactly how it was on the last shot. -
Tight in the chamber
firstcoueswas80 replied to ctafoya's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Turn the die down just a touch at a time until it chambers like you like. Need to bump the shoulder a few thousandths.
