I've got a #4, 26", fluted barrel on my U LRM. With the McMillan edge stock the balance is a little far forward, but the bare rifle is 7.3#.

Stomp, what's the point of having an AI, if you run it before standard 260? Kinda like running a 3006 @ 308 level, or 300wm @ 3006.

  15. I can never understand why someone kills a MONSTER buck, bull, bear, ram whatever it turns into a pissing match. Add in a tag that was bought for thousands of dollars... Good grief. If I had that much money, I would buy every premium tag I possibly could! Great buck and congrats to all involved.

    5.56/223 for deer? Input welcome

Problem with your buck above and a coues deer is the 80-120 yards. Most coues are 300+ I would venture to guess... 223 losses too much steam. 6anut, if you're in need of a larger caliber for the hunt, I've got a 243, 257, 300wsm, 270 or 7 RUM you can use. Take your pick. (Although, I might actually be using the 257)

    1. Last option, yes only if NOTHING else available. 2. (Magazine) no limit 3. See answer one. If a must, tsx, partition.
  19. Wonder if the 1:9 in my LRM would stabilize these.

Carrying Extra Rounds in the Field

Funny you should bring that up. When I posted this, the story Larry told me of the messed up tips popped in my head.

Carrying Extra Rounds in the Field

Mine as well. As mentioned, I have had mine for a long time, and made some spectacular shots with it (the best was a called head shot on a jack rabbit, about 40-60yards away, memory is a little hazy, after a member who had bragged about how his 460 SW was soooo deadly to 150, missed a rabbit at like 50... The called head shot shut him up REAL quick, it was awesome!). It also sits by my bed with a light incase it is needed around the house. I LOVE my XD.

Nothing too fancy, walked up on a buck still alive. Xd round and it was done.

Carrying Extra Rounds in the Field

LOL! Thanks for the laugh! Save yourself $400 or so, buy you a used xd-40, 9 or 45 or Glock 22/23 and call it a day My xd has seen some serious carry time, been refinished twice and still shoots like a house'a fire! I never jump in my truck to go into the woods with out it!

Carrying Extra Rounds in the Field

I was able to find a link to what I wanted... http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Allen-Deluxe-Ammo-Carrier/productDetail/Clips-and-Magazines/prod99999031115/cat100043 RCD, if you hunt in A. Lion country B. Undocumented Democrat country, the handgun is extremely worth it. When I killed my lion way back in 2006, I shot him at extremely close quarters, like 20 feet. When I looked over the edge after I shot and re-gained my composure, he was not there! I put the 270 down and grabbed the XD-40, thinking 13 rounds as fast as I could pull the trigger was better then one round. He was dead as a door nail, just rolled a few feet. Plus, a handgun works very well at putting an animal that might still be alive when you walk up to out down for the count, as compared to a high powdered rifle shot at very close proximity.

    .22-250?

Using a 22-250, I can kind of see... I had one and it was flat out STUPID accurate. No recoil, fast etc. Ida used it IF I didn't have any other rifles... But using varmint bullets??? You guys are flat out asking for trouble. I've seen varmint bullets not penetrate and not exit coyotes and javelina. In MY opinion, if one is going to use a marginal caliber, and let's face it, 223 & 22-250 are marginal at best, one should use a premium bullet. We as hunters owe that much to the animal.
