Big Buck.....

115+ 125- -
For the first time, I talked my dad into going out predator calling with me! Him having a Monday-Friday job, and me... well.... not, its made it hard to get out with him but we made it happen today. On our first stand was dry, minus a low, fast flying hawk that gave us both a dose of adrenaline. Walking into our second stand, dad saw a mule deer buck at about 150 yards, he looked through his binos and affirmed it was a buck. I told him to get his bow as he has a tag and I knew he'd be a comin'... About 5 minutes later, that little buck and 4 does are standing 20 yards away.... The next stand we are on the edge of a large wash, about 250 +/- yards wide. After my second set on the call, I see a coyote coming in at a pretty good clip... "Dad theres a dog, see it?" "No, where?" "In the bottom, about 125 out." "Ok, got it." (he doesnt raise his gun) "Well f@!#ING kill it!" Boom..miss Boom..miss Boom..miss.... etc The next stand, at about 8 minutes in, we see a coyote dart in, then dart out leaving as fast as she came in. We both stood up, but didnt make a sound, just stood there and listened. About a minute later, I see her stick her head/shoulder out from behind a bush at 90-100 yards. I pull up my AR-15, put it on her and squeeze the trigger. We hear the dog yelp, and run off. We look at each other with puzzled looks, not know exactly what just happened. I have my dad stand where I was to mark the spot. As soon as I get there, I see a good amount of bright red blood and I knew the tracking job wouldnt be long. About 50-60 yards later, there she is! After carrying her back to where my dad was, it looked like I had heart shot her. Entry was low in the shoulder, exit was about middle shoulder, the 68 grain Hornady BTHP left a silver dollar size exit and worked great! I estimate she only ran for 2-3 seconds before falling over dead. It was a great way to start off the new year. Thanks for going with me dad! Hope we do it alot more!

Calling with my old man
firstcoueswas80 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Paint job is pretty neat isn't it! I think the camo on the gun is what allowed me to kill this coyote. With out it, I might not have killed her. Thanks to the artist, its a killin machine now. -

LEts see a head on shot of that 103" -
Not a fan of bulldogs, or pit bulls? Because breeding of bulldogs (unless American bulldogs) is not common and quite labor intensive (or can be).

Hunting boots: what's good and what isn't?
firstcoueswas80 replied to CouesSlayer77's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
About a year and a half ago (before deer season, 2010) I bought a pair of Kenetrek Hardscrabble Hikers. Ended up being a really good thing as they were new and stiff, and I was hunting with a type II sprained ankle. Those boots kept my foot squared away enough for me to hunt everyday of the hunt. This past year, I wore them at work alot to break them in and soften them up and they were great! This past December I hiked more than I usually do and they were great! My feet are pretty sensitive and these boots have been great! They are not cheap, but they are well worth it! -
They were accidental, but as just a coincidence they are a 'breed'. They are not a registered breed, yet are along the lines of a labradoodle, maltipoo, etc etc. Not necessarily a designer hybrid, but a breed that has been purposely bred for temperment etc. Both parents are 55-60 pounds, I would expect that these pups will end up in the same area size/weight. The largets pups are currently 6.4 pounds, and the smallest one is 4.8 pounds. Both parents are gentle with my fiances 6 year old daughter, not an aggresive bone in their bodies, but both bark and run to the front door when it rings or someone knocks. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/b/bullador.htm I have both parents on site, and you are more than welcome to come see the parents, play with the pups etc.

You should see her when shes dolled up.... Its a good thing I have a big....... Paycheck. Here we all are, the next night headed out to dinner/drinks to celebrate with my parents. We didn't tell my mom, we decided to let her notice the big asss, shiny diamond on Sarahs finger. Well, my mom never noticed to Sarah finally told her at about midnight that night. We went out to dinner the next night, and I teased Sarah about that being our engagement party!

For me, thats an easy one! My brothers elk hunt. Starting from the opportunity for the hunt to be over within minutes of it starting, and then moments later getting my brother his first close quarters (less than 100 yards) of a SCREAMING bull and cows in thick cover. I'll never forget his excitement, as the kid doesnt get too excited for anything but he was pupmed after that. Also, driving to our spot in a early season blizzard, and pulling out a stuck truck, and then the next morning him, myself, my dad, my now fiance and her daughter following two trucks into the unit and us all hitting the same ice patches and getting loose. Then, Cory later in the day missing a couple of cows and thinking he was staying home that afternoon... Him deciding to not stay home that afternoon, shooting his cow (again, his excitement and pride level sky high) and then me making probably the biggest life changing decisions of my lifetime... Asking Sarah to marry me, and her accepting! That was definately the biggest/best adventure of my life, and one of if not the best day of my life. These pictures have been posted before, but I'll do it again.

Very cool! That is a goal of mine, to eventually take one with a recurve.

That buck is flat out awesome. Double droppers, great eyeguards, amazing beams, just solid everywhere, and then the double droppers to boot?! I think the coolest part is his beams... Not only because they almost touch, but I love how long they are and turn up after the G3. An absolute dream buck for sure. I dont know if I would ever hunt again after killing a buck like that..... Yeah, I probably would...

Filled my tag yesterday at high noon. Glassed up this buck feeding in the shade. Looked like he was a stud.... Kinda jumped the gun. Saw and shot at a buck the day before that looks just like him with about 12" more horn. When I saw him I thought it was the same 105+ buck that I missed.... Anyways, 525 yards, one shot and the 257 wby and 100 TTSX smoked him. He dropped and rolled about 75-100 yards down the hill. Special thanks to JLB for taking half of the buck! Also, very special thanks to Brian, Cody, Sergio, and Sean. Couldnt have done it with out you guys Not the 100+ that I was looking for, but 93 5/8". Passed on probably 6-8 bucks that were bigger than him in search of the 105"er. Found him, and missed him. I'll tell all that later one.

That narrow buck not only has a serious eyeguard, but serious lenght in general! Hes awesome!
