    Long Range Bullet Selection

Ive always based this sorta thing (scopes included) on what happens if a shooter buck stands up at close distance? Just because youre prepared for a 800 yard shot, doesnt mean thats whats going to be presented. I like a bullet that will hold together up close, yet open and penetrate enough at long distance. My choice for that has been the Accubond, or TTSX.

    the big and the little.

I watched a 90" buck take 3 slugs from a 33 in october. He was never hit great, but those slugs sure made him sick. He didn't go far. The 338 isn't super flat though and is a little over kill. Neck that rig down to 30 cal and you've got your rig!

    drt ammo

I killed 12 animals in Africa all with the 168 TTSX from the 300 wsm and they all worked perfectly, animales ranging from black springbok to Kudu.... I wouldnt agree with the above post at all, they work wonders. I managed to recover 3 last year and all are perfect.

    The Perfect Gift

Looks good! My dad just tried an AWESOME new recipe... 5 minutes at 500* per pound, then shut the oven off and let it sit for 2 hours. Was AWESOME last weekend. Course, yours looks pretty good too TJ

What happens if you need penetration? 1/4ing away shot, through the shoulder etc. As a general rule of thumb, the frangiable bullets are reserved for 'messy' kills. Prarie dogs, gophers, coyotes etc. For big game, even thin skinned deer, a controlled expansion bullet is normally best. I have used a VLD for deer, it worked well, but the deer lived for 25 minutes or so after a double lung hit (back of the lungs, but lungs none the less). Especially if using a .223 it will work, yes but it is basically bare minimum. Step up to a 243, 25-06 etc. Those are great choices (I'm a .25 and .27 caliber fan).

I'll be camped in 36B the week after Christmas. 7 miles from Arivaca or so. A little bit of a drive every morning, but we'll be there and youre welcome to join.

Chris, The last day I was out I was PRAYING not to see a 80-90" buck as with the way the hunt has been going it MIGHT have been in trouble!

Been rough so far. Hunted a total of 6 days so far (7 if you count two half days as a total) and only seen 12 bucks. Nothing even in the 80's. Seen a couple little bucks lightly rubbing horns, one buck scrappin the heck out of a bush. Tons of deer, not very many bucks. First two days, my buddy and I saw 72 deer.... Not an inch of horn. I have the week after Christmas off, so hopefully we can dig up a nice one! Oh, and Chris.... Bullets have been held.... Minus the coyote at 535 yards I busted yesterday morning.

2011 Elk Hunts (I love to hunt elk)

You still use that dang sling?!?!?! Good job too all... Looks like it was a cold biatch! I talked to Gail after her hunt, she was pretty upset about her wounding her elk, but I gave her a BIG kudos on doing what most wouldnt have.... Spening lots of hours following the wounded animal and finishig it off. She should be proud of that! Great job Jakey... I EXPECT jerky.

How far will a deer move?

Last year,I watched a solid 100+ buck get shot at on a hill.... Buck was within 150 yards of the same spot the next morning.

Discounted mule deer and coues deer hunt - Mexico

I'm sorry but this is funny to me... "I don't make a ton of money but this is a great deal for anyone, like myself, that wants a great deal on a great place to hunt" In this economy, not having a ton of money, but spending $15,000 on a hunt? Helll, my fiances Jeep, a 2011 Patriot cost that same amount!
