Realization of how lucky we are all.
firstcoueswas80 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I have been reading through some old posts tonight and came across this one. 3 years later, I still can recall this exact encounter and it reminded me to be thankful. -

Buckhorn 209 powder and the Barnes bullets. -
As to guides using one another, when I was in Africa every single PH at our camp had Leica's. All had the Geovid with the internal range finder.

Told ya! -
Here are my boys. The dog on the right, Ojos I got while in college. Doberman/Austrailain/Heinz 57. Charlie, my yellow lab I got from Aztrapper here on the sight and is a tennis ball FREAK! Both dogs love the outdoors but Ojos is absolutely terrified of gunfire. Took him and my parents chocolate lab out quail hunting one day. Got onto a covey and he ran off and would not come back no matter what. I had to track him down and found him laying under a bush with his tail between his legs. This is our old Dusty girl. She found us one day, decided she liked out front yard and wouldnt leave. She was a b!@# when we first got her but it was neat to see her grow into a dog that liked our company and affection. She died a week before I graduated the academy. This is my parents chocolate lab, Snickers. She is the most relaxed lab I have ever seen. She doesnt get excited about anything, unless you tell her to load up in the truck for a ride. Her and I scouting a couple years ago: She is good luck too, this buck went 103"

Im a Leica fan having Duovids, a Televid 77 spotter, a 900 yd LRF. Swarovski and Leica.... 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Another option, is you could just keep applying for the tag and then pick up a left over coues tag. Then if/when you draw the strip tag take out a loan to pay for the hunt. Probably not the most ecomoical route but it is an option

That looks like a big ole cat! Nice muley too!

Welcome to the site. 60 lb draw lenght? Respect on that one! Which direction does he normally approach from? What direction does the wind normally blow? Is your blind brushed up or in the shade at all or direct sun? Have patience.

Looking for a weapon
firstcoueswas80 replied to Broken Wheels's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Oh believe me, there are lots and lots of better guns for the job, but a 243 WILL get it done if those guidelines are met. That is exactly why I only shoot a 243 for predators. -
Very nice. Wheres the shot info? distance? gun, bullet, how the rodeo went down etc etc etc.
-
Find a good used one. Just my opnion, but brand new guns are way to over priced to buy. Especially when you can buy a lightly used gun for a respectable price!
-
I need to start applying with you!

At proper angles (mostly broadside), responsible distances (250 and under), and good bullets (Tsx/Scicorro II's) the .243 is definately capable for elk, but those are alot of limitations. Ill just take my 300 wsm with 180 TTSX and have at it! -
First time out and he killed a bobcat.. Awesome!

I understand your stance, but I was not asking for that reason. MOST people on this site wouldnt bash an outfitter, unprovoked but if you still wish to keep it a secret that is obviously your choice. I was just asking out of curiosity. -

Hmm thats weird being hush hush about the outfit but ok. -
That is a stud! That first picture (the big one) DOES NOT do that buck justice at all!
