    calling?

Thats what I do. Turn it on, pick a sound. Let the sound play 3-4 minutes then pick another one. Another 3-4 minutes than another one. So on and so forth.

    Happy Birthday Scottyboy

Thank you guys! I had a great day other than getting off at 10AM from 5 LONG nights of overtime and getting to live in the metropolis of Sasabe, AZ!! Gotta pay for those upcoming 2010 African trips!! Hence my missing the BBQ here in town. I was pooped out and came home and caught up on some much needed sleep. My beautiful wife and madre bought me a Leica rangefinder. Great gift that will get put to use alot this year. 32 years old..Whew!! Thanks again, guys! dang big dog, your old! I bet the Leica was a surprise, huh? As my birthday present, you can use El Chupacabra in Africa!

    Been a bit rough lately...

Two days before I left for the academy, my friend Andy Hinds passed away. A little over a month ago, one of my dearest childhood friends, Joshua Zwick passed away in a vehicle accident.. Then, to top it off, last night at 1123 PM, I get a call from another childhood friend telling me our mututal friend Christina's fiance, Mark Spraldin passed away last night in a car accident. He was a great dude, and he made Christina happy. I knew him for awhile, and we had plans of going predator hunting. In fact, him and I were texting a few hours before his death about going hunting. My thoughts and prayers are with Mark's family, but especially Christina. Nobody deserves to go through what they are all going through. Mark Spraldin, may you rest in peace.

    Considering bullet change

You could be right, they may not be EXACTLY the same, but they are still extremly close... In other words, one is soft.. the other is softer. Not that the Accubond is super solid, but it is quite a step up from the BT' type of bullets.

    Yellow Lab deeks Coyote

Last Thursday, Jake and I, along with my Yellow lab pup Charlie headed out for some coyote calling. Charlie has never been calling, but I play my Scorpion all the time, and he pays no nevermind to the calls. I also bang pots and pans, so he isnt gun shy either. Well, we are all walking into our first stand, and about 15 yards away from sitting down when a few (sounded like 5+) coyotes start holwing RIGHT under our noses. Jake and I throw up our guns expecting to see them but we cant. I hand the leash to Jake, and I make a mad dash about 30 yards closer to the coyotes to a tree and take a knee. I still cant see them. I let out a challenge howl, and I think they think it is my pup, so one pops up at about 80 yards. I, of course start foaming at the mouth because I know this is a dead coyote walking. Well, I fire and he looks at me like nothing happened... Hmm... 80 yards away, I am on a knee, with my AR resting on a branch. Weird. So I shoot again and he starts trotting to the left. One more shot and then he starts sprinting. dang. Another dog pops up, facing me. I shoot and the dog starts running right at me. Now I am 0/4 and I am getting mad not knowing what is going on! I shoot my last round and hear a POP and see the dog roll. SWEET! So we walk up to the dog and I am saying how I put the cross hairs right on the middle of the chest as the dog came towards me. When we get there, I hit it RIGHT between the eyes. My AR was shooting about 8-10 inches HIGH!!! I was shooting right over the other dogs back! Lets just say the .223 with a 40 grain Vmax to the dome = NO PAIN for the coyote!

    Considering bullet change

I too shoot a 257 wby mag. IMHO, if you do not reload, the 110 Accubond is the way to go for a factory round. Good BC, and a much tougher bullet than a Ballistic Silvertip. On the other hand, looking into reloading, and shooting the 115 VLD would be a good way to go for deer. I shoot the VLD for deer (will be taking 100 TTSX to Africa).

    Payson Wrestling

Wow only 9? On his entire roster? That reminds me of football when we had like 24, 25 players! What is there, 12 weight classes? I cant even remember, if the time since I have graduated it has changed so much! He keeps placing well in state and he will have a full mat room sooner than later!

    Shed hunt 2/14

I see 3 +/- coyotes every day at work... Today I saw 5. 2 pairs were paired up... The other was a single, but he was spooked from his bed by my partner and ran past me... He might have been paired up as well..

    Jim White vs Outdoorsman

I like the Jim White quite a bit. The only down side is if glassing straigh down, or down at a steep angle the handle hits the tripod which makes it rough. Not too bad to get around with adjustments to the tripod.

    Yellow Lab deeks Coyote

Yeah man Gunner, and the female pup.. thats something awesome! Charlie didnt really decoy this dog, I think they just wanted to make him breakfast, then got pissed when they thought it was him throwing out a challenge howl! He does good with the the call, it doesnt bother him, neither does gun fire. Normally he just lays down and choose on a branch or something.

    2010 January archery successes!

congrats to all! I never took my bow out for a pig this year. Those of you who still have the arrow in the pig (especially the head shots) can ya take the arrows out before the pix? I think that looks really bad!

    Been a bit rough lately...

Well the service was today. I was watching Christina as people would come up and talk to her and hug her and she appeared as she was holding it together rather well.. When I walked up to her she fell apart. I feel so bad for her and his family as he truely was a great guy and he will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Mark Spradlin. You will never be forgotten by everyone whos life you have touched.

    Yellow Lab deeks Coyote

Charlie is 17 weeks old. Real good dog. I am pretty sure he is gonna be a big boy too. The vet thinks between 80-100 pounds! Funny you mention that, as I have to go qualify today.
