This weekend was supposed to be a great weekend. I was to see my parents for the first time in three months, as they were coming into town for my graduation from the academy. That all went well, and was a great time. However, they sprung some bad news on my. My grandmother, who is nearly 80 has been diganosed with small cell lung cancer. However, it is small enough, and they think they cought it early enough that one surgery and it should be gone. The surgery will be this Wednesday, and we are all hoping and praying for the best.

Leica Douvid 10+15x50... Who has used them?
firstcoueswas80 replied to DesertDweller's topic in Optics and tripods
I must vary a little from Roughcut's assesment of the 10x in the Duovids. I think the 10x is AMAZING on them! I LOVE my Duovids. I carry them in a bino pouch, so they stay pretty well concealed. Of course, in some of the weird positions that we get put in while hunting/stalking they can and do fall out the bottom. For the most part, they are well covered. I absolutely love the ability to go from 10x to 15x in a heart beat. Bottom line, I love mine, and would rather have them, then the 15x Swaros, and the 10 Swar El's. 100% pleased with the Duovids! -

Unfortunately, I must make one. One of our dogs, Dusty was put down today. Dusty was a shephard/??? (chow possibly) Mix. She followed my little brother home from school one day and was looking in rough shape so my parents gave her food and water. She spent the next three days hanging out in our front yard, eating breakfast and dinner and drinking like a normal dog. It was at that time, my parents decided to make her a part of the family. (This was after she ate one of my skulls I had just cleaned). She started out slow, not really showing much interest with being part of the family. Slowly, but surely she warmed up and was a normal dog. She actually turned into a pretty good dog. Very calm, great with kids but always wanting to protect us from anything there was. Since the time I have left home, she had developed a tumor on the right portion of her head. Today, after several weeks of debating, my parents decided to put her down. She was a great dog and will be missed. She, truely is in a better place as she is no longer in pain. I will try and get some pictures as soon as I can. RIP Dusty Roads

minimum caliber rifle for deer
firstcoueswas80 replied to BigBfever's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have never killed a deer with a 22-250, but I have seen the body of one killed. This past year, in camp with Pops and Gary. Gary killed a really nice mid 80's buck with a 22-250. When he got back to camp, and I got to see the deer, the exit was tiny. Gary was using a very good bullet (Partition if i recall), and the shot was great, 1/4'g away, in the shoulders. The exit was tiny, and he stated that there was little, to NO blood on the gorund. He found the buck by tracking it. If I recall, the shot was fairly close as in sub 200 yards, but I could be wrong on that. Now, if a hit like that does not produce any blood, that makes me nervous. I prefer my .257 wby or my .270 wsm that I KNOW is going to leave a good size wound and bleed out! -

I have seen three lions alive in the wild. All of them would be properly measured in FEET from me, instead of yards... Tagged one, buddy tagged other, the third got away.

In my opnion, the 3-9x40 Zeiss conguest is one of the best buys in scopes around. Last I saw, less than $400 and a heck of a scope! -
and why is life so good Scott?! (I would agree if I was in your shoes!)

Too bad work doesnt let you get out and play. Get some time off in the late summer/early fall so we can go scout some bucks and shoot some more bob cats! We can take my truck next time, so we dont bottom out on every thing!

I am getting tired of not hunting elk. I think a rez cow tag is pretty cheap. I have been thinking about dusting off the 30-06 and go play! -
0 for me. Only took me about 15 minutes to get through
