    Bucks chasing does???

Dang Matt, and to think.. I wanted you to post this up so you looked like a dumbazz!!! It was weird for sure. Matt, remember those bucks I glassed up that you couldnt find because of the distance early in the morning? Well, I didnt tell you this, but I think they were sparring a little. But they werent getting all mean and vicious, they were just playing.. That sure is a lot of VERY eary pre-rut goin on.. Imagine if the rut kicks in about Nov. 28th... Oh man, AZGFD is going to be kicking their selves for all the tags that are out there for the "rut" (of course I know thats not going to happen)

I glassed one Saturday that walked behind 2 big bucks, and one small buck... He looked like he was as big as the smaller buck.. Id venture to say that was a big bobcat as well!

    Unit 36C - Safety advise

So far this year scouting (about 15 days or so) I am yet to see an illegal. I passed two BP agents in 36b yesterday... They asked me if I had seen anything that they might be interested in so they could go chase it. Seems look like they have slowed down quite a bit down there!

    Bucks chasing does???

These bucks were weird... When we first found them, ther was a big arse bobcat within 50 yards of them, but he didnt pay any attention to the deer at all as was on the move away from them. We were about a mile away, so they werent running because of us. They would all of a sudden stop, start feeding like nothing was happening then the doe would take off and BOOM! They were gone. It was weird for sure! PS. The spike was a T.I.T... He had to have 8-10" spikes!

    24b Hunt

Well said basser. If you are going to take shots that far, you really owe it to the deer, not to mention our sport that is already under fire to get a range finder and know the distance and try to make a clean, quick kill not throwin lead at the deer. Thats not right. So you saw the buck bed, but you left him there because you needed more water? Some times a few details are best left out of the story. Oh, too bad someone cut the deers antlers off.

    Weekend scouting trip

Amanda, I had the hat turned towards the camera, but it didnt want too cooperate too much! Snickers jumps on the quad no big deal. Just tell her "load em up" and up she goes and she will stay there. If she gets really off balance (she lays down) she will jump off and then get back on. I was about 50 yards from that doe and fawn, zoomed in a little bit. Also glassed up one heck of a bob cat on Saturday morning! This thing was a toad! Yesterday evening, Matt and I heard the Helocopter coming our way and it was pretty loud... As soon as Matt stood up, he hit the dirt.. Good thing to.. That 'chopper wasnt but about 100' MAX above my truck! It was pretty neat.

    Weekend scouting trip

Well, I spent the weekend down south scouting. I was a little nervous to stay down there alone as nobody could go with me. I was going to spend the night Friday night, but I didnt look forward to setting up the tent at night, or spending two nights alone down there. So I headed out Saturday morning a little later than I had planned. I was in no hurry as I had all weekend. My hunting partner.. "Can we leave yet Bubba?" I got to the glassing spot and started lookin for deer. Found some does and small bucks, but nothing interesting. I spent the next few hours driving new roads and finding new glassing spots. In the evening, I went back to an area that I know the deer frequent quite often. I was glassing East, few deer spotted... As soon as I turn to the West, I see a shiny arse... Followed shortly by a nice, long, wide shiny main beam! Woohoo!! I get about 200 yards closer, and try to take some pictures.. They didnt turn out all that well, but here is the best one (Just for you Hector!) Hes a pretty good buck, nice and wide and a straight, typical 3x3. I call this one "Guero" because of how white his antlers are. I watch him and his buddy until I can no longer see them. This morning, I head back to the same place and try to find them again. I found 4 more bucks on the same hill side. I am not sure if this biggest buck of this group is the same one from last night. He had the same type of frame, but was about 4-5 inches narrower than "Guero". I managed to get some OK video, and some decent pictures of this buck... The name for this buck is up in the air... "Guapo" because he is such a perfect 3x3, with a perfect cape... Or "Dont shoot me in the head".. I cant decided Here are some pictures and video. Video:

    Shooting in Tall grass

Do you have a bipod on your rifle? It's still good to do something to support the stock. Last year, I used my bipod up front and a tripod to support the back. It takes a fair amount of time to set it up to get the right angle. That is my only complaint about that way. That outdoorsmans mount looks very nice, but I would have the same problem with adjusting things quickly enough (since I don't have a pistol grip head). Amanda Yeah, I always strap a Bi-pod on my guns. But, they are always to short to shoot sitting down (being 6'3). It works great laying down, but with the length of the grass this year I do not for see a prone shot in my future. Only problem is, I think I will need another plate.

Amanda, nice job of marketing... It worked on me! Now I can leave that complete other tripod that I carry back at camp!

    Unit 32 hunt

Scottyboy and I had plans to head out to a place in 32 to try and find some deer. The day started out rough, I had a guy call in sick at work so I didnt get off as early as I would have liked. To make matters worse, 2 minutes after we get on the freeway, we slow to a crawl! THEN, we couldnt find the right road to the base of the mountains! After we got the truck as close as we could, we headed off to a distant, dark saddle. I think we had about 20 minutes of hiking in before the head lamps clicked on. After I took several spills, and 4 hours later, we made camp! Here is Scott making an MRE at camp. Not really knowing if we were where we wanted, we stayed quiet that night and woke up as soon as the light went from black to grey. We woke up on cloud nine... The night had been windless, 0 moon, and we were in Coues country!! About an hour into glassing, Scott glasses up a small 3x3 walking just below the bluff from left to right. We watch that buck and make sure his big brother isnt with him.. Hes not. A few more hours reveals nothing but good looking country. In the evening, I glassed up the same buck actually getting out of his bed. Too bad he wasnt a big buck, as we had him on lock down! After a few minutes of talking, we opted to haul arse out instead of sleeping on the ground again. Snapped a few pictures, and off we went!
