Yep. In Arzona, I carry my Xd with me no matter what hunt, or what time of year. You just never know. I have dispatched coyotes, jack rabbits, and pulled it on javelina that jumped up WAY to close to me!

What's Your Projectile Launcher?
firstcoueswas80 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Perhaps at 100 they're close, but at 500 they could be in an entirely different zip code. Yes, TAM I realize this. I am not a rookie to reloading, ballistics, or how a bullet/barrel works. I will spend my time at the range working the drop charts for each bullet out to my comfortable range.. I would hope the .523 BC of the VLD will out run the .370 of the 100 TSX. -
want new rifle, need some help

I think the .25 cal is PLENTY for deer, and fits coues just about perfect. I would not hesitate (in fact I have) to carry a 7rum on a elk hunt. Hits like a ton of bricks, and pushes a 160 grain bullet real fast, and a 140 even faster! -
There are a few things good, and a couple things bad: Good: You had full penetration. Good: He bedded down within 40 yards Good: You are going out to find him. Bad: He did not die in the hour you waited to go find him. Bad: Not a ton of blood where he was bedded. Bad: Rain!! Good luck to you my friend!

I do not recall any 140 grain pills in the .308 caliber.. I could be wrong thogh. I believe there is 130 (Barnes TTSX) and numerous 150 grainers. I would shoot a 165-168 grainer. High BC and more than enough weight to whack em.

Hmm... Wonder who that could be? Sorry Chris, but when I shoot (shot) spikes, I was good at puttin the bullet where it needed to be. -

If elk are in the mix, I would look at something .30 cal. .300 RUM, .300 Wby. or .300 win mag will all do what you want with plenty to spare. Large selection of bullet choices to match your game. -
Becker, Looks to me like the Mrs. is about to hyperventilate! Remarkable!

What's Your Projectile Launcher?
firstcoueswas80 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Ehh, just decided to give them a shot. BUT, at 100 yards, the VLD and TSX have the same POI so I am going to carry both incase the VLD's dont work for me. -
Hmmm... Dont believe I have ever seen triplets (that I recall) but I have seen twins semi-often.

SHOOT!!!! If you dont, give me GPS locations and I will gladly let you fondle his velvet while on the ground!

T'was a good time yesterday Larry! I tell ya boys, that 3x2, if he can survive a couple years is gonna be a stud. He had a nice frame, with terriffic eyeguards! Larry and I were lookin at the film at his house upon arrival. There is one scene where he turns towards the camera. At the same time, we both let out a "Whoa, look at the eueguards!". He is gonna be a nice buck! For some reason, I never took the Mathews after these bucks. Still dont know why
