You must keep in mind the design behind the WSM line of guns... Match, or nearly match their "grown up calibers" in a shorter, lighter, easier to handle gun... Basically, cut 2" or more off the barrel, a 1/2 inch +/- from the action, and loose a pound or so yet still have the same basic ballistics. I believe the WSM's have done just that! Then, if you run a WSM with say a 24" barrel, instead of a 22"barrel ( like my 270wsm) it comes even closer to matching even the best larger companions... ie. my 270wsm pushes a 140 accubond to roughly 3200 fps (one load pushes it to 3250 with slight pressure signs, another pushes it at 3175 with no pressure signs).. That is heavily breathing down the neck of the fastest factory produced .270 around.. the .270 wby mag, and still in a lighter, shorter action and barrel!

That 7mag would make a gorgeous .257 wby! I love that stock!
-
Well, I am not really using a warranty at all, but I am sending my Zeiss 4.5-14x44 for my .257 wby to Zeiss to get target turrets installed. Everynight that I send a email, when I check it in the morning I have a reponse from them. I am impressed so far! We will see how long it takes to get it back!

I love taking my dog out. When I was up in Flagstaff, him and I made dozens of scouting trips looking for elk. He loved it out there so much, he would peel out when he hit the dirt! I have only taken him out coues scouting once and he was very well behaved. Stays on the trail, and doesnt go far in front of me. If he gets too far, he stops and looks back at me and waits for me to say something to him. I have only taken him out once, because the next time I went out scouting after the first time I ran into my first snake I have ever seen while glassing. I will probably take him some more this year, because he loves it! Doug, dont forget, Rica is notorious for blocking the view! Especially in the early mornings, Rica is very rowdy, and terrible for standing still!

So, Jim, youre going to tell us all about how you need the warranty blah, blah, blah and not tell us what the heck you did?! Come on man! Thats almost as bad as posting a succesful hunting story without pictures! POINTLESS!!!!!

I dont blame you at all! That Nikon is probably 95% of the Swarovski, at a fraction of the price, and one one hundredth of the weight of the Swaro! I was EXTREMLY impressed by it when I looked through it! On a side note, the gentleman at the birdforum notes the Zeiss FL being excellant glass and they are. I have had a few clients with them and I have been extremly impressed by them both times, but they feel some what "cheap" to me, all thorugh they are FAR from that!
-
Congrats! Selling the child, thats a little harsh but the rest sounds about on par!
-
Are you talking about the Nikon Field scope with the ED glass? If so, I had a client who had a prototype of one a couple years ago and it was awesome, and tiny! That thing is for sure the best in its class!!
-
Yeah, Im not sure anything besides Lieca Duovids and Ultravids will come close to matching/passing the EL's. theyre pretty good! Plus, the only time I have looked through EL's, it was to watch a 100"buck fall!

Turrets/BDC/Guess hold over
firstcoueswas80 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Optics and tripods
How far have you tested the TDS at? What is the bottom line? -
Just curious as to what everyone uses on those sometimes long shots on coues? Currently, I use Target Turrets and love them. My coyote gun has Varmint Hunters Reticle from Leupold. My dads 7RUM has B&C and it works rather well. My back up gun(270) and my elk gun (30-06) both have standard duplex so I just have to guess holdover/wind. What works best for you, what are you running on your coues gun?

Very good Jim! What ya been catchin these fishies on?!
