FALL 2007-JAN 2008 COUES BUCK CONTEST
firstcoueswas80 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Nice Doug, way to make the contest so you can win something! Its kinda like how the smallest buck idea came to play AFER I killed the worlds smallest spike! I like all the ideas, any way to get more people involved, and give away prizes. ( I hope I dont get flamed for this) On the other hand, I think there should be some sort of minimum post rule... Lots of people join the site to throw their hat into the fire and try to win something free, but dont make a single post here. By all means, we need as many people to join as possible, it just seems we have a ton of people who join SOLELY for the purpose of trying to win something, who dont add anything to the site... Does any one at all agree with me? -
DOUG!!!! SSSSHHHHHH!!!!!!

Rem. 700 or Winchester 70
firstcoueswas80 replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Classified Ads
That is one of the best guns ever made! I have one of them, and it was my grandfathers and it shoots just as well as my custom 270 wsm! -
I would for sure send that trigger back also! try a timney! And how did you only get 3150 from the 110 accubond? Was it a VERY light load? I get the same speed from my 270 wsm with a 140 accubond. dont give up on those accubonds, they are great bullets, and toat a much higher BC than the TSX.

Look at the Nikon Field scope spotter. 2 years ago, I guided the owner of 23hourcampfire.com and he had every freakin optic known to man! ( he had swaro, leica, zeiss and this nikon spotter which was just a prototype) so of course in the middle of the day we set them up. I knew where some does would bed every day and sure enough, they were there and we put all the spotters right on them. I tell ya, this nikon hung with the swaro, leica and zeiss soptters! The thing is freakin light as all get out, and super tiny but the quality of glass is amazing! http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/nikon.pl?page=nikon8320 this is the one that he had, and I have not looked through the others.

firstcoueswas80 replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
What I did was take one sheet of 1/2" OSB and cut it into 3 identical sections. I then glued and screwed those sheets together. After that I took 2x4's and made posts out of them and scrwed then into the concrete floor. works awesome! -
Hunt in sweat pants!

Remeber what Tony (outdoor writer) said about odor control not to long ago? What about the law suit against Scent lok? IN MY OPNION, scent control clothing isnt worth the money! Take that money and by some quality hunting bullets!

Coyotes are tricky. I am yet to see one that I have liked. I think it has been more the "pose" chosen than the taxidermy work.

Pretty pictures

John you gor bigfoot in that 3rd picture! That first picture is amazing, I have never seen such a purple sky! -
Another vote for the Ripcord. I had the Whisker Bisquit, and switched to the FA. Right away I noticed better arrow flight, greater accuracy because of the improved arrow flight, and a 10 FPS gain in speed.

Long range rifles?
firstcoueswas80 replied to mattobertin's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Those custom made barrels & actions are part of the M24. So incredibly custom that Remington was contracted to build the rifles using a 700 action....so custom that only thousands have been made. The ammo you are refering to is the M118LR, a 175 grain sierra match king (.308) The M24 is based off of a long action 700. The intent, we were told (as students of the school) of the LA700 was so that the army could convert the M24 to a .300 win in the future. As I have stated in an earlier post. So far I have only seen a few navy guys using .300 wins. Infact they started using their .308s in iraq because the ammo from the army was so plentiful. If sniper students are using 300 win in school....then that is new from perhaps the last 3-5 years. During the school we trainined to shoot moving targets from 300, 400, 500, & 600 Meters day and night quals. We also shot unknown distance targets, where we were required to mil a known target size and determine the distance from the target. We then fired 2 shots at that target before being assigned a new target to engage but no targets were beyond 800 Meters. Infact, the army preached that the max effective range of the .308 win using M118LR out of our M24 was 800 Meters. We spent one day shooting at 925 Meters, just for the heck of it & I can tell you it humbled the the sh!t out of all of us. If the army has started using the .300 win (and all my sorces tell me they haven't....ie buddies still in the game) perhaps they are playing with 1k. A US Army sniper is expected to make shots at 800 M 70% of the time. There were no 1K requirments. Again, I don't know where you get your info. I believe you mean well, but I don't think your advice is based off of solid experience or reliable sorces. I know that I don't have a ton of posts on this site (but I do read it often) and I don't mean to step on anyones toes, but the man that started this thread is/was looking for advice before he spends a few, hard earned, fat ones. With that in mind my 2 cents worth is that we should all use a little caution when giving advice to someone who plans to spend their dough. I will step of off the soap box and go back to lurking. By that statement right there we can tell you havent been! -
This is what I have made of this tripod! I added a few different shades of paint after this picture. The base color (reddish) was supposed to be brown, according to Ace hardward, but didnt turn out like that! With some matte green, and some black fleck thrown on it, it looks pretty decent I think and is solid!

If anyone lost a tripod, let me know. I found one yesterday pig hunting. pm me or email me and describe it and where it could have been and it is yours! Ccrider4t4@aol.com

Tell Casey to take his own truck Casey, I can fit 4 guys in there comfortably now. The thing is.....the ol' lady is graduating college in 2 months and she owes me BIG TIME! So.....this truck actually may not be around next season, it just needs to get me through until then at least..........once she's working she can buy me my new truck.....and then I can retire and just go hunting Isnt that what you do already?! Mike, I already take my own truck! I mean, some one has to have a truck that can cross the 2" deep water (yes 2 inches) that we have to cross!
-
Jim, what happens when you have 4 or 5 people you need to get into that truck comfortably?
-
So you sold the gold "pretty" F150 and ur keepin this rig? This is the diesel with the banks right?
-
Some of us have jobs and have to work First off, get it rebarreled to 270wsm and your set! Hand load some 130 gr accubonds, or shoot some 130 TSX or factory loaded 140 accubond loads (what my 270 win shoots EXTREMYL well) and call it good!

Your right! I looked through a pair of Vortex at Ruff's in Flag last year when all the hype about how great they are was going around. Ive gotta tell ya, i was disapointed! A. I think they are ugly B. I was not impressed with the egronomics and C. I was not impressed with the glass, they were not nearly as bright nor as clear as advertised.
