Skinning and fur handling
firstcoueswas80 replied to AzTrapper's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
So, if I wanted to keep just the tail alone, what are the steps to keeping it preserved? I order a tail stripper, what should I put on the inside of the tail to keep it good? alum? salt? -
That is why most of us carry hand guns down there. I never go down there with out mine. Even when I have my rifle for that exact reason. I wonder how they would have behaved if they saw you had a side arm?

Skinning and fur handling

What do you think is a good way to preserve a cape? I cut the tail off of the coyote I killed this morning. I rolled the tail back on itself while skinning it. I got as much of the meat out as I could. When I got all out I could, I poured a 50/50 mix of Alum/ Epsom Salt into the tail to hopefully dry all the moisture out and preserve it. What do you think that will do? -

If your concerned about pelts, try a TSX, trophy bonded bear claw, or partition. Ive got some partitions layin around im thinking of trying.

John Barnesness wrote a article about the VLD's stating that they penetrated a few inches, then basically "blew up" rarely exiting. Yes, causing massive internal damage. But since when is 2-3 inches of penetration enough? Sure aint enought for me! That is unless of course I keep up the brain shots! ( they work well, Gino you should try em some time!) If you would like to trust a target bullet on the marginal shots, or the close shots be my guest. They are also designed to be seated waaaayyyyy out there... Touching the lands. This may or may not turn your rifle into a single shot type gun.

Casey, I think the bottom line is that you have made up your little mind and no proof will change that. I am telling you THEY WORK!!! We are going to test them on Piggies in 2 weeks and I will give an HONEST update when get done. I would be a FOOL to use a product that does not perform as I would have hoped. If you talk to the people at or around Berger Bullets they will tell you that they developed a target bullet that has proven to be an excelent hunting bullet as well! Tim was looking for constructive Proof of good or bad, not the gut fellings of nay-sayers! And when and if Doug is kind enough to share his points of view on these bullets I am sure we will all grow from that solid information. However me... being the guy that I am.... will take the proof that 2 little girls gave me over the harsh down talk of a guy that has thrown 11 bullets at the last two deer that he has shot at. Peace-Out!!!!! Alright Gino, If I remeber correctly, you were no one shot wonder with your last buck correct? Of course the guys at Berger say their bullets are the best, what kind of marketing would it be if they didn't believe in their own stuff?

I shoot a Nosler Ballistic Tip through my 22-250.

You should see the picture messages he sends me.... -34 degrees. thats enough to make any sane person want to move back! -
gino, just because you are 2/2 doesnt mean anything. that is a tiny sample size. bottom line is they are TARGET bullets! If Redrabbit decideds not to use them on a COUES because they are target bullets, thats gotta say something.

Dude that 115" has some SERIOUS mass! How about some more pictures of it?!

30? Holy cow man, I dont know if I can hang out with you anymore.. your a little old for me to be seen in public with ya -
No. just dont understand why people use Match bullets for hunting. Have read way to many stories about game lost with target bullets.
-
Bla Bla Bla...... What box have you been living in..... .... Oh I for got.... You don't read well... my bad... You could buy the BTW video, Casey... I have one I'll sell or Rent to you so you can make an educated judgement.... There are PLENTY of Dead critters to prove that the VLD's are not just for punching paper..... There are also pleny of animals that were not recovered because they were shot with a target bullet. But of course, none of that comes to mind does it?

Gino, there not a whole lot of difference in wind drift with the 270 wsm than any 300. The 140 Accubond has a Bc of .496... not bad.
-
Tim, they are target/match bullets. Not hunting bullets. They are not meant to penetrate more than a few inches. Good luck getting a bullet to the vitals on a 1/4'ing away or head on shot. Use a hunting bullet for hunting, and a match bullet for punching paper.

Mike (Ihunt2live) and his father, John and I went out today to find some scalies/gambels. Well, Mikes dogs tore up the scalies, and while chasing some of them, I bumped up a single mearns and got that sucker! Alright a few scalies and a surprise mearns in the bag! Now to get the gambels! Knowing that gambels are gonna flush out there, I changed one of my chole tubes to a modified and bam! got the gambels! Also found this nice shed! Mike found two as well. -

Knowing how tight mearns hold, Im gonna say she was all on her own. Look how tight she held when we were standing on the rock! we we on that rock and talking for a good 10-15 seconds before she flew! We for sure need to set a weekend up to go glass and try and call some dogs! Im about 99.9% sure we can get some dogs out of there! And your right, that was the cylinder choke with number 8's! -
They don't..... Mike just likes how that big dollar amount roles off the keyboard. If there wasn't 4 foot of snow out there I would go get my camera out of the truck and line up what Troy could only hope for Then I would email the picture to him every day for the rest of his life How many Swaros do you own Troy Boy Oh yea, did I say Swaros? Who needs Swaros? 1 set of Swaros is too many!

Gino, watch it there buddy! Mike, I thought I let that bird get out there, guess I didnt let her get out there far enough huh?! I thought the 12 guage was gonna blow her up also, but i was using number 8 and let her get out there a little bit so it wasnt bad.
