I like chasin jack rabbits with my 40, but it is also fun to take them with the Mathews! If I ever get a day off, I'm gonna run down there and take some shots at some jacks! -

I love my 270wsm. it will produce tiny wholes and has knocked coues, jack rabbits, and coyotes dead in their tracks. mine has snappy recoil, but weighs about 9 or 10+ lbs so its not bad.

Ballistic Coefficient
firstcoueswas80 replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
it is a measure of how it bucks the wind, and retained energy. most rifles and bullets will stay pretty decent within 500 yards with a lower BC. a higher BC helps retain energy and the bullet stay flatter after 500. most people who shoot heavy, high BC bullets are target shooters who shoot at like 1000 yards. they are usually too long to fit in normal hunting rifles ( ie th eBerger VLD) -
only thing i can think of is correct it for 100 yards, and see if it tightens up. make sure to check your action screws as well as the barrel making contact with the stock. sounds to me like when the barrel heats up it is contacting the stock and throwing it way off! try free floating the barrel and bedding the action.

your right mathews has been caight and passed on speed, but speed is over rated. mathews are the most forgiving, and smoothest bows i have ever shot. the speed is not blazin fast, but more than fast enough to hunt with. i love my mathews!

Ballistic Coefficient
firstcoueswas80 replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Heavier bullets will have higher BC's and the larger daimeter bullets will ( for the most part)... i believe a .284 140 accubond is something like .485, where as the 277 140 acubond is .496, so this isnt always the case! i think high BC's are more for the guys who wanna shoot at 500+ yards, when a heavier bullet with a higher BC takes advantage over a lighter bullet with more FPS behind it. i am happy with my set up, 140 accubond with a BC of .496 with a muzzle velocity of 3150.
