Hey Bret, didnt you shoot a 90+" whitetail IN THE ANTLER?? after missing him once? :D:D:D looks like you drilled that muley though! -
A properly calibrated turret is Far more ethical than a "hold over", or a Balistic Recticle...... IMO.... I have never been a fan of the 30-06..... I am a 300 Wby guy.... .... Like it or not the Wby is a ballistically comparable to a 7mm. I can zero @ 200 yds. and still be holding on hair (barely) at 400 yds on an elk, with a 180 gr. factory load...... But to shoot beyond that does require a Quality scope, IMO....and you are not buying one for $400....no way. I also don't have a whole bunch of faith in a gun tha comes right out of the box, being able to shoot sub-MOA groups.... I spent over a $1000.00 on my Wby and the best group I have gotten with it are right at .5 inches @ 100 yds. The 300 Wby I got from AzOneCam is straight out of the box and Jason told me that the best he could get out of it was just over 1 MOA groups @ 100 yds.... That is over 6" at 600 yds..... that is a lot when shooting at coues deer. I have posted in the past that I am looking to put a LR Scope on my Wby.... and have settled on the Huskemaw Optics scope and after I have it set up I will post and review about it, as it is a fairly new product built by hunters for hunters. I also really like the Idea of practicing personal technique from a bench, but there is no substitute for prcticing in hunting conditions, too... Also, because ammo (and reloading ammo) is not cheap and to save the barrle on my rifle, I am in the process of building a .22 cal target pistol.... simlpy for cheap technical practice (I'll let you know how that works out, too).... CnS theroticaly speaking, that gun would shoot a 6" group at 600 yards. is that a bad thing? heck no. what that means is that gun should not be shot at an animal at 600 yards... period. that is the way the gun is set up, now with some tuning and customizing, it can probably be made to shoot smaller. its not the guns fault that it shoots that big, and id be willing to bet, that gun in the right hands would shoot smaller than that at that distance.

Hey Casey,That's o.k...a 100lb pig would look like a little (red) next to you & no...it wasn't as tall as me, that's called trick photography. Ooooh...Casey................he got ya there! atleast i weigh 100 lbs! -
jason, i was quoting you. dont let it bother you though lol. bottom line on long range shooting is to get out there and practice. no matter the method you use, weather it be a specialized rig costing thousands of dollars, or the 270 ( said that for you lark!) that you shoot every other day and is a extension of your body. nothing replaces experience and practice. you cant buy a 10,000 rifle and scope, and expect to shoot sub MOA groups out to 1000 yards just cause you paid a ton of money for the rifle and someone else can with the same rifle. its all about what you can do with the rifle. edited to add: some people think because a rifle shoots .000001 at 100, that it will shoot the same at no matter what distance. that is not true. also, some people think because a rifle only shoots 2-3" at 100, that it is no good at all. from what i have read, this is not true some rifle shoot better at longer distances. now, me and my rifles, can produce 1/2 MOA at any distance. we are just good like that. :D:D that is unless a deer is put infront of me! isnt that right Ernesto!

terry, i wondered if that only happened to me! seems to happen to me on bull elk hunts as well. the OPPOSITE seems to happen on cow elk hunts! on all 3 cow tags ive had, i chould have killed 1 360" bull and at least one 340" on each of the other hunts! heck, on the last one i could have killed a spike from camp!

hey my dad made it in there! awesome! nice video! -
Lark, Figured you put that up on a silver platter for me! Jason, no offense taken! ( it was a 3.75") group i was also shooting off of a polecatr tripod and was not very steady. the group could have been luck as i didnt feel very confident with the shots. Dougs rifle was very steady ( his stock design is greatly different from mine)

Can You use a Hand Gun
firstcoueswas80 replied to blaserman's topic in Handgun Hunting for Coues Deer
those things are actually gaining alot of popularity. i believe in some states, it is considered a pistol unless tha barrel is longer then 14?16?18? inches? something of that nature!!! that thing aint carried in a holster! its carried with a sling just like a dang rifle lol! -
I like the LSS that Doug mentioned, when i was about 15-16 i bought one in 30-06. killed my first two coues, along with one cow elk with it. make sure to put a good recoil pad on it though! the dang gun is so light it kicks like a mule! heck i still dont like shooting the gun cause it knocks the dog water out of me! i would much rather shoot my dads 7RUM or my 270WSM!!!! especially when the 30-06 is loaded with 180 grain pills! 125's were cake, but 180s are different story!

"big wayvos " Hey Lark, if your gonna speak the language, know how to spell it! Huevos!! :D:D on my 270wsm, i have a Zeiss 4.5-14x50 with target turrets. i have shot this gun at longer ranges. Doug and i went out shooting a few weeks ago and we both shot groups at 432 yards. his group hit the target, but mine was smaller. ( his was actually perfect, it was quite impressive) my group was about 10 inches low, and ( do to over guessing the wind) about 18 inches left. upon later inspection, i had set the turrets at 400 yards, instead of just shot at 450. the group was give or take 3.75" this past saturday, i went out with a buddy with my 270wsm and my 22-250. ther was a melon sized rock at what we guessed was 550 yards. i put my 500 yard marker on my 22-250 just above it, hit the rock 3/3 times. i then dialed up my turrets to 550 and hit the rock 4/4 times dead center with my WSM. my buddy then hit the rock 3/3 times with the WSM. my point is both turrets and Varmint/Boone and Crocket/ TDS style reticles can be very accurate. Jim Mullins, Christian, and myself had a client in December who had a finely tuned 300 wby with the TDS reticle on it. after we had killed, him and i fired a few rounds behind camp. we ranged a rock at i believe 422 yards. i asked him where to hold. i held dead on it ( this was a baseball-softball size rock) and on the first shot i blew it up. I love and trust the turrets on my 270wsm. but i also love and trust the Varmint reticle scope i have on my 22-250. both can be used succesfully with practice and practice and practice.
