gonna start reloading
firstcoueswas80 replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
i just got into reloading this summer. i bought a RCBS rock chucker supreme kit and it has been going well. it does take a lot of time to get a load tuned but it is also amazing to see how .5 of a grain can send a group from 1 inch to under a half an inch and so on. good luck! -
my dad has the 4.5-14x40 leupold with the B&C on it and it seems to be a really god scope.

diamondbackaz, they put it in even a worse place for me, its about a mile, if that from my house, i live right there on horizon hills. i am thinking about working there next summer because my dad and i know the store manager. if they will meet or beat what i make at home depot i will work there. if not, i will work at Home depot in tucson and spend all of my lunch time in SW.

.17 HMR VS. 22MAG
firstcoueswas80 replied to rigutierrez's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
the rifle i had was the exact model you are looking at i belieb. wood stock and heavy barrel. it shot OK but thats it. i shot cci and federal out of it and it did like the federal better but not up to my standards, that is why i dont have it anymore. but my 22-250 i couldne be more happy with! -

i had a savage 17hmr and it did not shoot well. as far as my 22-250, i shot 2 jakcs with it, one took the head clean off and the other field dressed it for me, i love my 22-250!` -

22-250, reach out there and touch and if all else fails, it can be used on coues. i have a sendero and loaded with the right bullets, i would not hesitate on carrying it for coues ( well maybe i would, it weighs like 9 or 10 pounds if not more!) -
my dad, grandpa and i ran in to this guy elk hunting in unit 1 about 7 or8 years ago. man we felt for poor guy. he looked like he had hiked about 15 miles that day he was exhausted. he told us how he had wounded a spike the night before and had been looking for it all day ( it was around 12 or 1) and we could honestyly tell he had tried his best to find it. we gave him some warm burros and some water and dropped him off at his truck. on another note, Scottyboy and i got lost and came out on a road just intime to catch a suburban. this "hunter" zoomed bye us with out everng acknowliding our waves!

My scouting buddy
firstcoueswas80 replied to bowsniper's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
it is really sad to hear that. it is hard to say good bye to a pet no matter what. especially a dog. dogs become part of the family and are looked upon like a human in regards to as much love as they are given. i am really sorry to hear that. -
long long distance shooting
firstcoueswas80 replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Mike, the above mentioned rifle is also a custom built rifle chambered in 270wsm. it pushes 140 accubonds at about 3200. my smallest 3 shot whole form 100 is .336" it is an accurate rifle and i have a good leupold scope on it. -

wade, i agree with you, get me within 300 and its lights out. but the thing is, i also want something to take home for my efforts. if i have a buck i want to shoot at 300 yards, or any distance i know i can make with a good rest no wind and him standing not moving, what is the point of trying to sneak up for a closer shot? i am not going to let a good chance slip through my hands just because i want to get close, that is what archery and muzzleloader hunting is for. i carry a high power rifle, with a high dollar scope and hour upon hours of hand tuning loads and shooting them at the range so i can make those long shots if need be. -
long long distance shooting
firstcoueswas80 replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Mike, i really wish i could shoot far like 500 yards but have now where to do it at. or atleast where i know i can go. if i can hit a 6" circle at 400 yards i am happy with that. now that i think about it, i shot my 30-06 at 300 yards with a laying down rest. the group i produced was about 2.5 inches. not bad for a 30-06 with a 16 y/o shootin (this was a few years ago) also took out a jack rabbit that day from about 315 yards.
