heres the whole story: i killed my pig friday morning, i left camp by myself, and came back with a pig but i had help i was walking out when i passed one of my hunting partners who had spotted a herd of pigs not 200 yards where i had been glassing! so we turned around and got into them... my dad, little brother, and i were out trying to find him a pig. we get a call on the radio from one of our buddies who we are hunting with saying he has a lion glassed up. i haul but back to the truck to grab my .270( which i brought for just such a case) and i grab him his 7mmWSM. i jump in the truck and go meet him by the road. he shows me the area that they are in (WAAAAYYYYYYY up there) and off we go. it took us only about 1 1/2 hours to get to the saddle where we were 266 yards away but we couldnt see them because they laid down on the other side of the rocks. so we demised a game plan that i would basically go above and behind them, and then just walk down right up on them. when i got up there, i completely lost my bearings. so were talking on the radio and im thinking im gonna get to these rocks, and be looking over the rocks about 100 yards from where the lions are. i get to the outcropping and am talking to him asking him where i need to be to see them. im on the right side of the outcropping and he says "is there anything on the other side of the rocks?" i walk about 2 more steps on the other side of the rocks and my cat is sitting on a rock about 20 feet from me with her back turned to me, has no idea i am there. i get the .270 up and fire a round. when i get back on her, i see her fall, kitty down! i then hear his 7WSM with the muzzle break go off and i am watchung as his cat goes down! two lions down spot and stalk style!! woohoo!!!!! on my way on the stalk, i took a moment and asked my grandpa to help me out on this and he did! after i realized that i had taken a lion with my grandpas help and his rifle, i kind of becamse over whelmed with emotion and let out a tear or two! what a great day! i was pumped, to say the least!

Coues Contest Entry Summary
firstcoueswas80 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Mike, why didnt you smoke him!!!!!! the reason i shot such a small buck was to get the best deer meat i have ever had and believe me, i achieved that! heck, from now on, i think the buck has to scorc under 20 for me to shoot! lol ahahaha -
Kevin, do you call that bullet failure on that buck with the SGK? 35 yards out of a 300WM is pretty dang close, i do not know if any bullets would have opened up a whole heck of a lot from that distance and that speed with out hitting a bone or something. my buck this past year was shot with a 140 accubond out of my 270wsm at a range of 200 yards. thats still probably above 3,000 fps as my muzzle velocity is 3,250. the bullets hit bone and did a number on both shoulders. i dont fault the partition from your gun on that shot. it was a close shot and had probably to high of a velocity to really open up.

my second elk i shot was shot with a sierra game king from about 75 yards with a .308. the bullet was 165 grain and the shot went through the heart, making her to a back flip. we later found that bullet on the far side under the skin perfectly mushroomed with a very high weight retention. THE SHOT WAS ONLY 75YARDS!!!!! you cant ask for better performance than that. there was a fist sized whole in her heart and i still have the bullet to this day. i like the interbond, accubond alot but i shoot the accubond although i am thinking about the interbond for my 7mag.

COUES CONTEST WINNERS!!
firstcoueswas80 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
mmmmmm i have a complaint.... scott adams cheated! that buck is still alive! thats not fair! -
another vote for the Accubond, because of doug ( RedRabbit) i have loaded accubonds in my 7mag, 270wsm, 7 ultra, 30-06, and 270. they are very accurate and are suppposed to be top notch! they killed two coues bucks this year with no complaints! one from my dads 7RUM, and one from my 270wsm. i have only loaded interbonds one time, they grouped .75 through my 270wsm with a random powder, and random lenght... defientaly some potential!

ditto everyone else, looks like a good shot! if he was shot with a 300 RUM he would not be moving right now that is for sure! but yes he does look skinny and unhealthy, i give him another month if that! -
fromt he picture... it seems the water was probably the kids pool in the front yard! lol jp., nice buck! way to go!
