Coues Rifle: READY!!!
firstcoueswas80 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
call me superstitious, but historically a person(s) who post their groupings on the internet have all been unsuccessful after the fact. I would pull this post ASAP. Or maybe post a better grouping. good luck youll probably do just fine! your right, post a better grouping... roughly 1/2 MOA at 400 and 500 yds is not all that good from a bed of a truck shooting table and a hunting rifle Darren, I tried to talk Doug into letting me borrow his 118" buck to shoot at, (insisting I would never hit it) but he relented to let me borrow it at the rare chance that I did on the first box of ammo! the gun is a Bettin Custom made on a Mauser 98 action, Richards Microfit Thumhole stock 270WSM, Bold trigger Zeiss 4.5-14x50 conquest with turrets. load is 140 Nosler Accubond at 2.892" with 63.5 grains of H4831sc with F215m primers. -
nicely done! I wanna see last years buck!
-
I have shot at the range as few times... it is fun! Doug and I did "smoker" style shots on the 15 piece 3d range and it was fun! well worth the fee of being a member!

Looking at getting a hand gun
firstcoueswas80 replied to IHunt2live's topic in Handgun Hunting for Coues Deer
right on! the 686 is one heck of a fine hand gun. I had the 6" barrel, but traded it as it sat at home most of the time because my XD-40 gets most of the field time as it is accurate, and packes 11 rounds of .40 s& w. look at the xd line up, either the 4" (service) in 40 or 45. you wont be let down! -
Nothings dyin if lead ( and copper) aint flyin!

Amanda, If it came in canvas instead of vinyl, with the straps to tighten it down so it has some back support Id buy one! -
Unfourtanetly, I never used a processor in Flag. I have only taken my stuff to WGP here in Tucson and have been nothing but pleased with them! When azpacknhorns killed his buck, we halued huevos to get it back to camp. as soon as we got it back to camp the thing was skinned. when we got back to my house the next am, we spent probably an hour rinsing it out and cutting wasted meat away. Now, this was a big heavy bodied buck and we took EXTREM care of it. When I picked it up to take the meat back to him, I'd be willing to bet there was 50+ lbs of meat if not more! Take in good meat, recieve it ALL back in good condition!

Mr. Sharpie!!
firstcoueswas80 replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Well scott, gotta say it, you missed probably the best conditions of mearns that I have been on! Doug and I didnt see ANY birds in the am, but i think we got into about 6 coveys in the evening. I missed 2 birds that were BEGGING me to shoot them, but I did manage to get a double on two males. One was a mature, the other a juvey. Doug was hoggin all the birds, and his Weatherby was on fire. He ended up with 6 birds in 7 or 8 shots! It was COLD and wet! the mutts would have loved it! -
Can you say dream girl!! WooHoo Mine are of the hook No way Mike! gotta have as many hooks out there as possible to land one great fish! And HOLY CRAP that buck is HUGE!!!!!

If I EVER become immune to buck fever, that is the last hunt I will participate in. Now, I know I have no excuses ( i didnt have any on the 23 shots I have taken on 4 deer) either! Now, I know my rifle can make the shots, its just up to me lol! -
Nicely done! id put him in the high 70's and low 80's range as well!

Coues Rifle: READY!!!
firstcoueswas80 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
i really wouldnt call that a group you should ashoot at least 4 shots but not bad good luck on your hunt With raw materials and metal at the price they are, 2 shots will work for me, especially when they are that close at that distance off of a backpack/bipod combo! -

I have the Jim White adapter for my Leicas as it is much better than the one Leica provides. Like has been said, the head can fall out. My Leicas have fallen out but thank god they fell into my lap, not on the rocks I was sitting on! ( And of course this is the first time I EVER took them out into the field!)
