Finding new hunting areas when the old ones dry up
firstcoueswas80 posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I am a serious creature of habit. Typically, that means I hunt the same areas year after year. Some of it is tradition, some of it is blind faith to areas that we have had some very good success in through years past. However, the past couple of years have been unexplainably bad in those areas. I don't believe it to be pressure, as we only ever see one other group of hunters in there and they are always in the same place on the same rock. They have taken deer out of there and it is unknown how many, as they seem to have a large group and they are on their out cropping consistently. Question is, how does everyone find new areas in the same units that you typically hunt? I know the answer is scouting, but I have found summer scouting to be almost fruitless as it is too dang hot too dang early to do any hiking and then too hot to do any glassing. And, I don't go anywhere without my dog, and although she is snake trained, I feel as though that is playing with fire. I've always been hesitant to go to new/unknown areas during the season due to the possibility of it being wasted time. However, all too often lately the proven areas have not been much better than that. -

If my math is right, that guy bought $10,000 worth of tickets? I mean that's way better than paying full price for the rig that's for sure not going to lie I'm pulling for him!

Hard to win any games when the team is sitting on the couch eating Cheetos, watching the other teams play.

I'm not sure winning the Pac 12, then winning the Pac 12 tournament qualifies as anything to be embarrassed about, no matter how they played after that.

Took my boy and the dog, met up with a couple of friends and the pigeon shooting did not disappoint! Scooby, the black lab is a MONSTER. Scooch my Airedale got a heck of a work out. We worked on not retrieving until released. She did great. The boy did more shooting than hitting, but he had a blast! Great day over all and still as much fun as you can have with your pants on!

I've been listening to a lot of books about old western times lately (Louis L'amour, William Johnstone) so this style of handgun is fresh in my mind and dang I would love to own one of these! -

Oh I've definitely seen some great bucks pig hunting. And likely I should branch out while pig hunting, but as stated I am a creature of habit. So, I usually go to my faithful pig spots as well. Double whammy. -
How did ASU do in the tournament? Did they even show up?

I've got some neat old stuff. Open to offers. All boxes but the three separate are full. The ammo in the bag is 35 Remington sold for reloading parts, shoot at your own risk. They look ok, but I'm not sure. For a starting point, the Winchester 22 ammo appears to be last sold for $18.90/box online. I've got 12 boxes of it. Not looking to retire, just looking to be fair for both parties.

You shoulda had him meet you face to face. That woulda changed his attitude.
