    The .223

well said Ernesto... and the not using a 30-06 because it ruins meat? to me thats not a good excuse. i would rather ruin meat and KILL the deer than take a chance at maybe killing it/maybe not and not loosing any meat IF i kill it. there are too many variables out there to use such a small caliber. by using a larger caliber, you elimaniate one of the variables... nuff said

    Your First Rifle?

on my 12th, 13th or 14th birthday ( dont remember which one) my parents bought me a savage 99e 308. the gun was very nice, had a steel but plate and a tasco 3-9x40. the rifle didnt really fit me and when i shot it, it kicked the snot out of me. i developed very very poor shooting habits back then, i would flinch and jerk the trigger like you wouldnt believe. i killed my first two elk with it.. a spike bull (my first big game animal on my first ever time applying in az) and a cow elk ( the very next year, unit 1 juniors hunt AWESOME HUNT) i never killed a white tail with it but carried it on my firts few hunts. when i was 15 or 16 i saved up and bought myself a new rifle. one that fit me better. i bought a remington 700 bdl mountain LSS. this rifle replaced my 308 and i took my first two coues with it. since then, i have bought and sold many rifles including the 308 i traded the 308 for a 243 for my brother when he said that he wanted to start hunting. i still have the 30-06 and it will not go anywhere ( even though some anomyus member here keeps telling me i should sell it and my 7mag and get a kimber montana) my 30-06 is about to be stripped of its scope and become a safe queen until i can afford to buy a new scope for it. i have a 300wsm coming in that will be taking the place of my 30-06 as my elk/bear rifle.

    The .223

there is a pretty decently sized difference between the 223 and the 223 wssm. and yes how could i forget the 25-06! maybe since i sold mine ( which i didnt want to do but had NO CASH) i want to forget all about the gun and caliber!! 270wsm is the best coues round... only took my buck 4/5 shots to the shoulder/lung area last year

    gates

hunter education class 11 years ago ( dang that seems like a really long time) said to always leave them as you found them, which i always do. unless it says always keep gate closed which in coues country, i have found very few that say that.

    ADVICE ON QUADS

they dont make many 2 stroke 4x4's ( if any) but yes you do not want a 2 stroke, especially with changes in altitude. re jetting them everytime you change elevations is i pain in the cuelo

who hunts with ballistic tip ammo?

Jack, good shot. Ballistic tips are not very 'strong' bullets. they are made to expand quickly, and not necesarily controlled. the bonded bullets ( accubond, interbond etc.) are made to expand at a controlled rate. i think that ballistic tips are fine for game around the size of our coues. stay away from shoulder shots as this will cause the bullet to 'explode' (trust me, shot my first dee rin the shoulder with a 125 BT from my 30-06 at 400+ yards and it blew it to heck) if you can manage to get the bullet behind the shoulder, chances are the deer is not going far at all. stay away from bone and i would NEVER use them for elk.

    My first robin hood

dont know if any of you have ever heard of the ragsdales ( Terry and Michelle) but they are both former WORLD champion archers. they are from tucson and shoot PSE> well, i grew up with their kids ( Dan was about the best athelete i have EVER played ANY sport with, and Jill took after her mom and was Prom queenmore than one year) well anyways, in their 'archery room' there had to have been about 30-40 robin hood arrows.... most of them werent one arrom on top of another, they were an arrom on top of an arrow on top of an arrow on top of an arrow. i mean 3-4-5 robin hoods in one! now if thats not a feat i dont know what is! i have broken my own nocks, but never a robin hood.
