Hmm let me think, a bare used action reasonably goes for 350, the trigger discounted down to 100 bucks and the stock discounted to 350. that comes to, whew $800, no not inclined to go lower. -

Remington 780 youth 20G. Load it with #2 lead and it's easy to handle. #2 at close range will hurt and in the face UGLY UGLY UGLY also not much structural damage.

The best ones are the ones that hunt with you

Will be an NRL22 match at Ben Avery 3/16 in the AM and at noon a "long gong" match likely shooting to 330 yards.
-
Time to shoot in a match. Which machine you planning to attend?
-
Because some matches set steel at 400 yards. Electronic shot sensors on the target lite up when the steel is hit.

Some like you have nothing but bad experiences with dialing Leupold scopes while some like me have have fired 1,000's of rounds attending shooting matches or practicing and hunting while dialing for different yardages and have zero issues with the 6 scopes I have used for about 6 years. Just not normal for one customer to have several and all bad units and the other customer to have a number with no issues, some degree of randomness would be expected.

My experience for the last 25 years of hunting have been with a 30-06 with a fixed 6X power Leupold, a Swarovski Z3 3-9X36 on a lite 270 and now a VX-6HD 3-18 on a 6.5C. The VX-6hd 3-18 is heavier and in my experience more power than required for shots out to 400 yards. The fixed 6X worked great on elk out to 400 yards and the 3-9 was sweet for Coues out to 350 yards. Currently my VX-6 is on a 10lb rifle and I use it for hunting and rifle silhouette matches, it works great for both and can not think of a time when I felt eye relief was an issue. I have about 1300 rounds on the VX-6 and around 1/2 have been dialing up and down for varied distances with no issues. The TMOA reticle is nice for wind hold offs for longer ranges.

Newbie neck tension confusion
AZAV8ER replied to Calebwalter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Over the many decades of reloading I have settled on using a RCBS partner press with a universal de capping die, Forester sizing dies with de-capping/expander removed and the Sinclair Expander. I get runouts around .001-.002 and excellent accuracy. If you get a 6.5 expander for $100 then just neck bushing your brass down just enough to require a bit of expansion. With not all pieces of brass being uniform in neck thickness or concentric thickness the expander gives you a uniform inner case mouth diameter and concentricity. Enclosed is picture of results using expander. -

Winchester 270, 24 inch lilja barrel and HS-Precision stock using Hornady 140 SST Superformance that gets you 31** fps muzzle velocity. My son used this combo and was dead on at 380 yards.

Drive truck till it's no longer practical and set up a tent. Oak & mesquite fire to cook over or enjoy and sleep on a cot in the tent. Get up early and hike in the dark for 40 min and start glassing as the sun comes up.
