    Coues hunter or Coues Sniper?

I ask myself this same question all the time. AZAV8ER what exactly do you think needs to be dialed back? Is it just the distance or is it the equipment as well? Equipment, when I wrote that I was thinking minimum equipment to mess with makes my hunt more fun (for my ways of doing it). My concession to equipment over and above what my Dad and Uncle carried was a carbon fiber tripod for 10X42 binocs and a range finder. Tripod has been an incredible addition, range finder is just another bothersome little device that needs a battery but when the time comes its the only way to figure out if you are looking at a 300, 350 or 400 yards shot.

Like posting video of shooting a buck in the butt at 800 yards won't? I don't have one Spanky, but post yours. You seem to know what its all about. Nope pupster, don't have any video. What I was referring to was what I watched on this site, and thats the last I am saying on that.

    Coues hunter or Coues Sniper?

I could be wrong about this, but I do not believe the genes a buck passes on vary based on age. Ie if a small, young buck has great genes, he will pass those great genes on when breeding no matter his age. However, this is based on logic to me, not fact based as I have not researched it. Its that the mature, proven by time (older), stronger buck with better genes dominates his weaker peers and out breeds them. Younger bucks basically have to wait till they are old enough, strong enough to dominate in their turn. A certain number of prime bucks are required to ensure an area has enough coverage by breeders proven to be strong survivors. A little like a herd bull with elk. The herd bull holds a harem of maybe up to a dozen cows and keeps away all weaker bulls, weather to old to young or just not strong enough to take on the herd bull. Your point is a good one, with mostly good genetics at this time could take a while for weakness to creep in.

    Coues hunter or Coues Sniper?

As we get more efficient, more capable at killing prime breeding bucks (due in part to equipment that lets us kill at very long ranges) I ask myself, are we hurting future deer populations by leaving lesser bucks to do the breeding? Does any other hunter here give that a thought? Not challenging your methods, just thinking how we hunt is changing and what if any impacts are there because of that?

Not sure why, but sounds like you have thought about it some, what do you think is the reason?

270 for deer hunting, 270 F-class and 6.5 Creedmoor for Precision Rifle. Garands are ok I find features on M1A nicer.

    Coues hunter or Coues Sniper?

Leave it to the old guy to get the point I was going for. I remember the days of just a GI canteen, knife and a 30-06 surplus SPFD, armory built in the 30's, with a Lyman 4X manufactured before I was born. Not quite the "pure" experience as hunting with a recurve with no sights. But now days it feels close. Thanks ThomC

    Coues hunter or Coues Sniper?

For 25 years hunted AZ Whitetail's and Mule deer in Utah. Up there bagging Mullies was stupid easy compared to Coues Whitetails. Not sure why they would be easier to hunt up there, but they were.

An Open Dialog on G & F Laws

Thanks for the thread. It was informative and some responses are very useful. I am now of a solid conviction that there is no give on even seeming minor violations. If I forget my license then I don't have a tag (even if I do). If I shoot, then check to see if I hit or what the sign says before doing anymore hunting. I know your thread was meant to go a different direction but I appreciate it novels and all.

    Emergency Air Evac

Hmmmm 60,000 bucks in the chopper. Lets see Pilot, Copilot and flight nurse for the day $3000. 10000 lbs jet fuel most $5000. Maint. & amortization on bird $6000? that leaves $46000 pure gravy to operator. Anyone have better estimates?

    Keto

Eating hi carb "tricks" your metabolism into laying on weight. Low carb unwinds this dysfunctional condition. Watched my younger brother dump weight by the tens of pounds over several months, he quit drinking a couple big gulps of regular soda a day.

    Berger bullets on Coues...

I have hand loaded Sierra Game Kings for decades and found their accuracy to be very good and their performance on game (especially Coues) to effective. I currently shoot Hornady Superformance 140gr SST in my custom 270. The SST's also take care of business. I load the Berger 140 for another 270 because no one makes a target/match bullet in that weight for that caliber.
