Question about 308 win and 6.5 creedmoor
AZAV8ER replied to maximus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Out to 500-600 yards the big difference is going to be recoil. Less recoil to manage from a hunting/field shooting position equals better accuracy. The 308 Hornady 178gr ELD-X ammo at 800 yards has 1500fps and 894 ft/lb energy. Now something better (if we are talking hunting) than the 308 or Creed would be the 280 Hornady 150gr ELDX, at 800 the .280/150gr has velocity 1740fps and energy 1008 ft/lb with less or at least no more recoil than the 308. -

Maximus what are you aiming to hit at 600-800 yards? To be more accurate the 308 is a Suburban and the Creed is the 4Runner -

LOL, the but hurt old FUDD's lashing out because their emasculated 30-06 err 308 has been eclipsed. -
Thank you FlatLander, I just emailed in my support for hunting. Hope other do the same. Get involved or get railroaded by anti's.

Interesting topic. So a Guide that sounds like he is for the most part a decent sort flubbed some paper work by accident, or because other motives? The FS fines him and the AZGFD hammers him hard. Why a harsh punishment for failing to report a couple of hunters? Was the commission trying to crack down on under reporting? Were some commission members motivated against Steve? Seems like a punishment fit for guiding unlicensed, taking out hunters without proper permits/licenses or guiding hunters outside their permitted unit. Why did the commission hit him so hard ???

I was hunting in 35B in the late 80's maybe 87-90 and we got dumped on one afternoon about 4 inches of snow. I recall it was a late October hunt. Does anyone else recall this?

I missed a couple hunts in mid 80's and Dad was telling me of one hunt when the things in the ice chest froze.

My memory a bit off. Found my references and I have it in 1996.

Found my notes and it was 1996. Yep warm Friday and Saturday dark by 3:00 pm and inches of snow by 4:00 PM.

I like my 12X50's. I also hike out early for at least 40 minutes before I set up and glass, also move around to different vantage points in a days hunt. I am not going to take 1000 yard shots so then there is the spot and stalk to get into range. I do not care to carry any bigger binoculars given how much I hike around.

At 100 yards 1MOA = 1.047in 1MIL = 3.6in. At 100 yards one 1/4 MOA click = 1/4 inch and one 1/10 MIL click = about 1/3 inch. Clicks in MOA approximately 1/4 inch at 100y in MILL's 1 click approximately 1/3 inch at 100 yards. That is the simple uncomplicated difference , otherwise they act the same. What do your shooting/hunting buddies use? You want to shoot in the same measurement as they do so you are speaking the same language. It becomes more critical in wind calls at distance. If you are in a PRS match and other shooters are saying 3 mills of wind and you are in MOA then get that math brain turning up to make the conversion in your head (3X.36 = 1 MOA approximately.
