    Swaro 12x50 or 15x56HD?

I here you and we agree Berger's are crap, 50% is pretty good. If you just want to compare 12X to 15X I will agree 12X is better 90% of the time. 15X is a specialty piece of equipment for ultra long range work. When you need them you need them, when you don't you don't. You do have to remember the birders glass at close range most of the time at less than 400 yards. Dan

    Swaro 12x50 or 15x56HD?

I don't argue with everybody and wasn't arguing with you. I was voicing an opinion based on my own experience. If I have upset you I am sorry If you like your Swarovski glasses enjoy them, I know this is Swarovski and Berger country and nothing else works but don't pin argues with everyone on me. You folks are too sensitive and remember a closed mind never learns. Dan

    Swaro 12x50 or 15x56HD?

sure they disagree but I have used both in the field of both powers owned both of each and if you haven't used LEICA you don't know what you are missing. The difference is clarity and brightness. optic reviews are never unbiased I'm sure you can find good reviews for Vortex but I wouldn't carry them. My opinion is based on my own personal experience and that of others I have known to have switched from Swarovski to Leica. Swarovski not bad just not as good optically or mechanically. Besides Swarovski is a crystal manufacture, optics is a side line business for them.

    Swaro 12x50 or 15x56HD?

Try LEICA 12X or 15X they are miles ahead of those Swarovski. Spend your money once and be forever satisfied. I have owned them all and it is LEICA hands down above the rest. Dan

  12. Wilson/Sinclair all the way. Nothing cuts as square or as repeatable and it is readily converted to a neck reamer. They sell a power adapter that replaces the hand crank so you can use it with a power screw driver. May not be the fastest but is definitely the most accurate and most versatile. Dan
  13. Disagree,Bumping back the shoulder increases headspace. I never ever set shoulders back for that very reason and don't understand why anyone would add headspace. The difference in go and nogo gauges is only .004. The shoulder neck juncture is the holy grail when developing super accurate bench guns doesn't seem it would be any different for what you guys are doing. I have also noticed that Nosler brass has less capacity than say Winchester or Remington. Could be your problem Dan

    Bulldozer in the 6.5 WSM

I like the way that bullet is constructed. Looks like it will expand nicely, I think their on to something. I have not worked with the 6.5WSM but have done quite a bit of work with the 270WSM. Looking at your data you should be able to get to 3300fps easily. I noticed the ES while being 22 to 25fps( groups 1&7 ) would be much lower if it weren't for the lowest single velocity shot in each string of three. Had the same thing happing to me with 270WSM with the slower burning rate powders. Switched to H4831 regular cut and ES dropped to 8fps and my groups clustered into .25". Velocity actually rose a few fps. Might give it a try if you don't get where you want. Dan

    338-378 Weatherby

Don't believe you could foul a barrel to the point of having pressure swings a dramatic as you are experiencing. Would explain poor grouping though. I have found wby ammo to be very inconsistent with respect to pressure. Out of five boxes of factory 300 mag I had to cull over 30 casings due to loose primmer pockets. To remove that cooper try JB Non embedding bore cleaner available from Brownell's ( 800-741-0015 ) or in some of your better shooters supply shops. Start with the jar with the blue writing and finish with the jar with red writing. Nothing works better. Since you bought the rifle used, and I am assuming don't know for sure it's history, I would have the headspace checked on it as well. Good luck with your cannon at least that's what I called mine before I sold it. I just couldn't handle the recoil. Dan

    Bulldozer in the 6.5 WSM

Read your article with interest. Good technique leads to good outcome as is evident in your posted targets. Particularly interesting to me were the Bulldozer bullets. Where did you find them or do you have to order direct. Nice article Dan
  20. Fastener manufactures specify torque values based on using a dry fastener. Some will give or list values for both. The long and short of it is using Loctite or any thing that lubricates the fastener has the effect increasing the specified torque value As Big Tub says. Really no need for any primmer just clean all surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone apply the Loctite in the afternoon shoot the next morning. If you want to speed things up set firearm under a household lamp overnight. Dan

  22. Yes the joys of the good old USA, just can't beat it....
  23. Yes some do speak more than they let on, but you can't ever tell and I do understand and speak some Spanish and quit a bit of Spanglish. Not only have I hunted down there but used to travel and work in all of the Mexican Mines doing Field Service Engineering and consulting. In a nutshell I'm just saying be very careful down there because they will through you in one of their jails down there and then your up a creek with out a paddle. There legal system down there is backwards no phone calls ...ect. prove your innocent, not be proven guilty. And their jails really suck. I'm not saying stay out of Mexico, it's a really neat place with a lot of really great people. I still love to fly to Cabo and do some fishing. Just remember to have all you ducks in a row so to speak. Dan
  24. The Mexican Federal Police are the ones you really gotta watch for south of Douglas or Naco. It's really unnerving trying to communicate with them. They don't speak any English and usually have 5 to 6 sixteen year olds with FN-FAL's just hoping they get to use one while you try to get by. I payed up $60 Morditha for one single 22 rimfire cartridge accidently left in the bed of my truck one time down there. Get everything perfect and spotless when dealing with firearms down south, and make sure there nothing in your vehicle they might question. The best thing you can do is travel with a Mexican citizen that's affiliated with the Ranch your going to hunt. I don't go down anymore even though I used to hunt with a good friend who was a Mexican citizen who owned a ranch. Dan You can get custom stamped brass from starline but I don't know what they require for a minimum order.
