alright! I've already posted both buck's shed's on here a while ago, but here is the big boy's shed.... I'm guessing the shed is 2-4 years old. This has got to be a 7-8 year old buck, maybe older. The other shed is just a 80ish side of a shed to compare. -

Come on Jamaro, he's nothing like your 115" bruiser, besides you know how I feel about you Here is another buck I have the sheds from. From one year to the next, he turned really non-typical. Went from a 70ish buck to 112" buck. My buddy shot him. Casey, I'ts in my closet. To lazy to do the picture thing. -

Hey Josh, I just had another one of my cameras stolen and mine even had a python lock on it!!! The guy had to have come home, gotten good wire cutters and come back. Man I hate thieves!!! I've come across 10 or more cameras (usually moultries) in the past 2-3 years and never once did the thought of stealing it come into my mind. Once I switched memory cards ( giving him the larger 256 mg card, his was a 128). But there was nothing good on it. (Not saying that is right) Congrats on getting your stuff back man! -

Well, nobody guessed but I said I'd post the score so here it is. 90 3/8ths. -
I hunted pretty hard this Janary. Took off a week and 1/2 to try to stick a really big one this year. I have a buck on my trail camera that I think will go over 110" net and gross. Two years ago I was guessing him as high 90's low 100's but this year he is just HUGE!!! He came in one time while I was in my stand tending a doe. She came in first and he hung out in the thick stuff. Finally he presented a head on shot, as I pulled back he recognized the sound of my arrow touching my rest and he took off. My heart was really pounding after seeing that huge of a buck in real life. I hunted that same stand 3 more days passing on a few smaller 75" and less bucks. I rattled and grunted in a few just to play around with him. Yesterday I was hunting that spot as my final day for January. It was the day after a snow so I thought it would be extra good. It wasn't as I didn't see anything until 12:00 pm. It was a little forky buck that came by and scraped. I spooked him by accident and as he was running away with his tail up, I grunted to him hoping he would come back just for entertainment. Not a minute later I detected movement as a decent buck walked up the canyon towards me. From far away he looked pretty good and I was feeling depressed having not seen the big boy for the last few days. I thought to myself, " I'll just take the big buck next January, by that time my back will be healed and I wont feel as much pain sitting in the stand. This buck was coming in fast and it appeared he was looking for the source of the grunt. He stopped at a nearby scrape and did his thing very agressively. He even raked the pine sappling. Afterward he continued on towards me and stopped right at my mock scrape with a dripper. As he sniffed the ground I drew back and took only a 15 yd shot. The shot was perfect for the steep angle ripping one lung apart and coming out of his liver. He only ran 20 yds and piled up. He is the biggest hard horned buck I've killed and I'm very happy with him. I will not settle for anything but that whopper next year though!!! Here are a few pics. I'll post his score in a few days, if any of you want to try out your knowlege at guessing? I'll be using Greg Mcbride "Trails end Taxidermy" for my 4th animal. I've always been very impressed with his work.

I was in Guatemala for a couple of years and every once in a while, I'd see a whitetail buck up on the wall. Most all of them had small main beams, basket like racks with decent mass. Short points as well. Was able to see a few deer just out of guatemala city grazing in a grassy opening. Just does though. Appeared to have very small bodies. BTW the word deer translated to spanish is VENADO. Also a very popular Guatemalan strong liquor.

Mike, Tell us about your mock scrape and dripper. Great buck by the way and I commend you for your effort. Over the years I've found certain doe in estrus products that seem to work better than others to use in my daytime drippers. The particular area I chose to hunt is a bench with several trails crossing 20 yds from my stand. There are about 5 natural scrapes the bucks made themselves within a 50 yd radius and then my mock scrape. On my mock scrape I use forehead gland scent on the licking branch and a certain doe in estrus pee in my dripper. I've witnessed it work too many times to know that it is indeed effective however it is not a miracle worker like some may think. Some of the smaller bucks that came in totally ignored it. I think the timing has to be right for the mock scrape to be effective as well as for the grunts, bleats, and rattling. I'm quite sure this buck I shot came in as a result of my grunting due to his very aggresive behavior. Thanks for the Kudos, I love doing it!! I just hope it's not so painfull next January! -

Here is the one I wanted and hopefully will get next year. This is the same buck but the buck on the left was 2 years ago. The G3's are a lot higher now along with the main beams and mass. -

I just purchased this blind because it seemed the perfect size for my wife and I to hunt together in. It is a breeze to set up and take down. You have the ability to shoot 360 degrees and it comes with a decent chair. $299.00 I'd appreciate any feedback from those who have this blind or things good or bad you've heard about it. From what I can see all I have too say about it is it is awesome. I guess because it is so large, it could stand out more to animals? thx! Mike

I really like Louis L'amour books. I've read most all of them and really liked, "The Walking Drum" and "Last of the Breed".

Well from what I've read, the rut is based on the amount of light in a day. Does going into heat is what really gets the rut going regardless of the weather. Yes, colder weather may increase the activity of deer which makes it seem like the rut is going harder. I've noticed that the peak of the rut typically happens early January in the areas I hunt, in other words that is when most of the does are in heat. There are several stages of the rut. In late November to early January I've noticed the bucks will start rubbing and scraping, they will start broadening their range in search of does. Some does may go into heat as early as the first part of december but most do not. That is why you will have some hunters swear the rut is in full swing while every one else isn't seeing any rut action. One canyon may have 1 doe in heat and bucks are just swarming all over her while for miles around her there is no other major action. The key is to find the canyon or ridge where the doe is in heat. As december progresses more and more does come into heat increasing the chances of a hunter finding good action and the bigger dominant bucks. I've been lucky enough to be in a treestand (only twice) while a doe was in heat nearby. That one day I saw 8 different bucks come in all of them sniffing the ground where she had peed. I also watched them chasing her. Unfortunately the 1 big buck I was after never came in. I'm sure he was tending another doe in heat somewhere else. It has been surveyed that drought conditions may postpone does going into heat. The year after a drought year does usually have there fawns late signifying most does came into heat later than normal. After a buck sheds his velvet his body's testoserone levels increase little by little. If you glass a lot you will see little sparring matches in November and the larger more dominant bucks get more irritable and intolerant of other bucks as time progresses. I'm definately not an expert on the rut in any circumstances but I have done a lot of experiments using different doe in urine products, scrape drippers, rattling, grunting, mock scrapes etc and I believe I've discovered some consistent truths about the rut over the years. 3 years ago during the first week of december I was out scouting and found a nice bench with 3 trails crossing and deer tracks. I looked around and didn't see any scrapes or rubs. I made 2 mock scrapes hanging a scent dripper on one of them and dripped dominant buck urine. I sprayed a licking branch on each mock scrape with forehead scent gland. I set up my moultrie digital camera and came back a week later. There were 5 new large scrapes and a bunch of rubs within a 40 yd circumference and deer tracks everywhere. My worthless moultrie ended up being a dud and had no pictures. I went and got another camera and set it up. A week later I went back and had several hundred pictures of 2 90+" bucks with pictures of them scraping. I've had a couple of similar experiences since. I believe the bucks are ready to breed the moment they shed their antlers, all it takes is a doe in heat and it is on!! I have had very good success with certain brands of buck/doe urine's which I won't mention because then it would ruin the fun of experimentation for you bowhunters that treestand hunt.

Congrats Tim on a heck of a nice Muley! I really wish I could have been there.

I actually passed on this buck 4 separate times waiting for a larger buck I'm obsessed with. I guess he'll just have to wait for January. I scored him and had my taxidermist score him. Lets hear what you guys would guess his gross score to be and then I'll reveal the Gross and approx Net in a few days. He's not the prettiest buck I've seen, but he's the biggest buck I've shot.

I found out my late Kiabab tag didn't go to waste after all!! I donated my tag to the Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation and 14 yr old Michael Mowery jr was the lucky one to get this tag. His father wrote me a letter explaining his past trials and success on the hunt. "He was diagnosed with Lukemia at age 4. Was in Chemo for 5 years and had 2 relapses. 4 1/2 years ago he had a bone marrow transplant and has been cancer free since." Just wanted to say Congratulations to Michael on harvesting a beautiful 4*4 Muley buck! I wish I had a scanner so I could post his buck. I'm not sure if he visits this site but I want to say thank you for your letter of gratitude. It is humbling to know what trials other people have gone through. I have no regrets for taking this coues buck.
