TREESTANDMAN replied to GRONG's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Congrats Josh!!! I know you have hundreds of pictures and a few sheds of this pig! Very well done!!!! -
Man, what a Bull!! Thx for sharing the pics.
-
So where are the pictures?

A bull of anyone's lifetime is harvested again!! Thankyou for the excellent story and pictures to go along with it. He was definately the Monarch of that area. I'm sure incredible memories were made on that hunt that will never be forgotten. They will be retold for probably centuries to come. Congratulations to all involved in the pre-scouting, hunting and harvest of this magnificent beast!!! Man that pumps me up to get drawn for elk!!!

Coyote hunting
TREESTANDMAN replied to TATAat27's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Rich, 2 years ago I had a coyote chase a full grown whitetail doe under my treestand. He was maybe 20 yds behind her in some thicker manzanita type country. I've also heard a whitetail fawn screaming as a coyote drug it away from it's mom, as I got closer to look, I watched as that fawns mother chased that coyote away. I doubt the fawn made it though. Just witnessing those couple of instances lead me to believe that Yotes play more of an effect on deer than we think. I understand your point of view though on just killing to kill and agree to some degree. -
That is an awesome bull!! I'd guess around 335-345ish.

Thx everyone for your compliments....Doug, I'm planning on helping Tim with his late kiabab hunt for a few days after thanksgiving. I've got a 2 yr old and a 3 month old that will keep me busy in the meantime. Sometimes I feel like I place hunting as a higher priority than I should so I'm glad I'll be forced to spend more quality time with family. P.S. I just got back from my taxidermist and he rough scored my buck at 78", quite a bit higher than I had originally thought.

TAM and I just got back from our antelope hunt on the eastern side of NM and it was one of the funnest hunts I've been on. We saw some nice bucks and both ended up taking some decent goats. Tim had to hold me back from shooting the first couple of bucks we saw opening day. He is a much better judge of antelope than I and I ended up taking one of the prettier bucks we saw in my opinion. Tam took what I believe to be a little bit bigger goat than mine with a unique , cool looking top. Man, Antelope hunting is a blast!!! I only had to put a 100 yd stock or so and made about a 250 yd shot. My wife is glad my hunts are over.

Man I'd love to see the front of that top one! Looks like one unique buck! That bottom buck is a toad!!! I think he'll be close to being a booner! -
Casey, 2 reasons, I had a late Kiabab tag. And I was hunting a bigger buck.
-
That is a beautiful looking buck Gary!!! Congrats!!!
-
It's alright Jason, I was really suprised the first time I scored him at over 100" I thought he would go mid 80's. Here is the spreadsheet my taxidermist used. He's got quite a few non-typical points that add up the gross score, his mass measurments were good and his left main beam is quite long.
-
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really needed that knowing I won't be able to hunt the late kiabab hunt of a lifetime. A lot of you guys were really close on the gross score!!! He was measured at 104 6/8ths gross, and 88" net. Lots of deductions!!! He is by far the biggest buck I've taken so I'm pretty stoked!!
-
I mailed it out today!
-
Thanks for the reply's everyone. I was looking through my archived pictures and found this buck from Aug of last year. He would have had to done a bunch of growing but it could be the same buck? I kind of doubt it's the same buck. Same spot though.
-
I'll be donating my late Kiabab tag Somebody will be very happy!
-
On his left antler, we both took the second circumference measurment between the main beam after all that junk and then the last 2 measurments in the middle of his last point and end of main beam.
-
Thx!! By the way, I know I will be made fun of for this, but I blew a late season kiabab tag when I chose to arrow him. dope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spending time in a tree stand ?
TREESTANDMAN replied to Big Browns's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I think its important to be constantly aware and completely still all the time while in a stand. With these coues deer, I wouldn't read a book. Too much noise and movement. Of course it depends on your set up. I've seen a whole lot more deer while concentrating on not moving and listening for the soft steps of a deer. In that picture it looks like you are in the thick scrub oak/manzanita country. They will appear out of nowear in that stuff! I urinate right out of my stands. I've had deer sniff it and go right on to the salt. -
The p-41 is small and compact imo. We've used one for our child pics for years. It also takes decent video.

Yep, It's a bat.
