    Anyone like drop-tines?

Cramerhunts, don't you EVER let that happen again!!! Thanks for posting those incredible sheds! Muleys and elk seem to be more common but its not too often you see drops on coues!
  3. Very cool pics!!! Thanks for sharing.

The tale of the Big G2 buck

That is one heck of a buck!! Must be closely related to the buck you harvested. Good luck on finding his brownies and taking him home this year.

    what kind of scat?

Wow TAM, I'd never thought of that before. Great idea!
  7. TREESTANDMAN

    I knew it!

I've also seen them in the 4 peeks wilderness Area and Just below Rye, around Barnhardts trailhead in the low mesquites. (In the rut) There was a really big 5*5 running w/ a herd of 8 or so cows.

    Bowtech: Allegiance or Tribute?

Not too long ago I was shopping for a new bow and shot the Tribute, Hoyt Trykon, and Mathews Switchback. They all shot great but I liked the balance and grip of the Switchback so I went with that. I wouldn't even consider an Allegiance just because there have been quite a few archers experiencing cracked limbs. Yeah, putting it in a bowpress incorrectly may be part of the cause, but there is a little something more to that with the numbers of that specific model cracking. For that reason only I'd recommend the tribute. Or even better, a Mathews Switchback!!

    Nikon Monarch binos

I've been using my nikon monarch 10*42's for around 5 yrs now. I've always used them shed hunting or scouting, and as a result the lenses were scratched up quite a bit. Just recently I had a problem with one of the eye pieces not coming out like it should. I sent them into nikon to get repaired and instead of fixing the eyepiece, they sent me back a brand new pair at no charge!!! For the quality, customer service, weight and price I don't think there are any binos out there that match the Nikon monarch series. Like Swarovski, they really stand behind their product.

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

Thanks for the review RR, The downsides I could see to purchasing the 10+15 duovids is #1 price and #2 weight. If I get drawn for archery antelope, elk or turkey I'm not going to be needing anything over 10 power and I'll be wanting the lightest pair of bino's around my neck, (in my case nikon 10*42). The same thing while hunting coues using a tripod, I'd still prefer having small light binos attached to my neck/shoulder harness for quick easy use, and packing my 15*56's for longer, sitting tripod use. The concept of the Duovids sounds attractive but it makes more sense to me to have 2 separate binos at less the price. But I agree that if you can't go wrong whichever way you decide.

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

This is what I would recommend as well. That is the set up I have and I love it!! The swarvos would probably sell better in the future as well if you ever needed to sell them just because they seem to be more popular.
  12. Hard to say from that angle. Maybe 75"?
  13. It is a yote or a bobcat. Because it's tail doesn't stand out I'm kind of guessing bobcat.

    Yesterday's finds

Nice finds. I don't think most of the chalky cracked sheds we find are as old as we sometimes think? I found a brown elk shed couple years ago, kept it out in the sun and it turned white w/in a couple of months.

    Bowtech or Parker

Well said Crazycoues. That is what I did w/ several high rated bows and decided on a Mathews switchback XT for those same reasons. You also want to consider resale ablity in case you need to sell it in the future or want to upgrade. Bowtech will most likely sell quicker than Parker because it is more popular. A Mathews will probably sell easier than a bowtech and Parker because it is over-advertised. Most of the archery videos you see (primos excluded) involve mathews bows and swarovoski optics.

    G&F meetings last night

Yes the archery success rate may be up in part due to hunting over salt but what is wrong with that? Typically bowhunters hunt over salt using a treestand in ponderosa forest. Hunters that draw a rifle tag usually choose to hunt more open, glassable areas, so even though the hunt success ratio for units holding pines may be up for archery hunters, the population decrease due to harvest is spread out evenly over the unit. The idea of this method seeming unethical to the public is hogwash. As was stated before, the majority of public (non-hunters) most likely has no idea it exists. I use trailcameras and Treestand hunt over salt and I will testify that a lot of strategy and work goes into harvesting a buck. It is not as easy as it sounds! The salt/mineral products sold in Sporting goods shops are beneficial to the deer/elks health. They might come into it 1-2 times a week. This chance of disease, unethical perception to the public, appearance of too much success talk is bs.

    Swarovski Has Great Customer Service

I'm a loyal Swarov customer because of their customer service as well. It can't be beat.

Saw a nice buck while shed hunting

What a beautiful typical coues buck!! I would guess him at 106-110. He has got some long main beams, nice wide spread, good points and good mass. In the past I had gotten pics of a buck about his size that didn't drop his until early June.

    Head gear still attatched

From what I've seen, Most coues start dropping in May- June. There may be a few in April? But I doubt very many.
