Thank you for your prayers everyone. Just got back from the hospital last night and things are going pretty well. Because my right shoulder was dislocated the earliest I'll be able to bowhunt sanely will probably be September. I really appreciate the visits and phone calls from a few of you on this forum who know who you are! Mike

What do you guys think?

AZ>NMcouesaddict They are being sarcastic.

It's a good bow! The only thing I don't like about it is the let off is 70%, not 80%.

Danny White will not be on the coaching staff. Not sure where you guys are getting these rumors? Would be nice though!

Randy Ulmer Hunting Accident?

He was probably scouting for his Kiabab hunt. The most important part of hunting is enjoying the ride, eg. Pre-scouting, hiking, finding new areas, etc. Taking an animal is just the icing on the cake. Rembrant, Where do you get your info that chute planes are pounding them? That is news to me? -
Randy Ulmer Hunting Accident?

It bothers me that people are using words like greedy, selfish, come over to the good side, evil. Have any of us talked w/ Randy Ulmer and found out why he does it? Or all we just mind readers? I believes that a persons intention many times is what makes an act ethical or unethical. I don't know much about chute planes but the idea of flying somewhat close to the ground over beautiful country at a slower speed watching deer and elk really appeals to me. Have any of you guys ever been to Califoria Adventure and tried the hangliding ride? It is awesome!!! People keep assuming the Randy Ulmer does it because of the pressure, or the fame, or he is greedy, or wicked. What if he really enjoys doing it because it is a blast, a rush of adrenaline? He enjoys seeing wildlife in that manner? Because of the risk, price, training requirements, and complicity of these chute planes I can't really see this becoming a very popular scouting option. I don't plan on purchasing one, but it does seem to me like a very exciting and thrilling experience. If I did do my research and felt it was safe and drew a coveted kiabab tag. I probably would scout using this method and feel no remorse if I harvested a nice buck as a result. I can see where hunters are coming from in their point of view that it is unethical. I disagree. What I really don't like is people making assumptions on other people's motives. -
Nice looking cow!!

What does he score?

73". Cool devils points! -
Thanks for the documented info Jim! I wonder how different the measurements would be on bucks from the Northern Central part of the state? I would guess they would be a few inches longer? When you say the range was from 11" to 15" but the average was 12", did that study separate the mature bucks from juvenile bucks? I would think that the measurments from the backline to the bottom of the brisket would vary quite a bit from a mature buck 3.5 yrs + and a 2 yr old.

Here is a decent buck I just got pics of. 2 weeks ago he had his right eyeguard. Must have lost it rubbing or sparring? I'm enclosing both pics. Still running w/ his little buddy.

Great story and beautiful Muley!!! Thx for sharing!

Mid 80ish buck

Yeah Jade, after hearing his story I did the same. It does increase your odds of tagging a buck if you have ammunition in your gun and aren't wearing sandals! -
Mid 80ish buck

Jamaro, Using a homebrew sony p-41 housed in a 1040 pelican case. They look a little different because of the angle and light. They are the same buck for sure. I've got other pictures I used to tell for sure. His white stockings are unique, the bottom picture is cropped and zoomed in and doesn't show his white stockings. The big buck in the first picture matches the buck in the lower picture. -
Guess the score?
TREESTANDMAN replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I'll throw my guess in here. 108" gross. That bottom buck is a fatty for sure. Most of the mature bucks I've seen up north during the winter are nice and fat w/ swollen necks. -

Missed again, Here's a picture of a FAT buck! -
Mid 80ish buck
TREESTANDMAN replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
He may go low 90's. He is a little thin horned, short main beams, narrow spread and nothing much for eyeguards which makes me guess mid to high 80's. I'd gladly take him opening day though!! -
Pope & Young top 5 typical & atypical
TREESTANDMAN replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Atypical and non-typical are synonimous. They mean the same thing. -
I agree, it is a muley shed.

Randy Ulmer Hunting Accident?

Randy is an intelligent hunter. If I had the money to use a paraplane I would do the same thing. There is a lot of risk involved but the enjoyment and effectiveness would outway the risk. Is it legal? If it is legal I don't believe anyone here has grounds to judge the guy? He didn't do this to make money, or guide another hunter. I would imagine he does it for his own enjoyment and to help him find that monster muley. I appreciate all he's given back to the archery world. Ditto to Younghunters post. -
Scott Lil-Goose as well.

Last year sometime I shared an experience of sitting in a treestand and having a doe wind me, snort blow and take off with her tail up. 30 minutes after she had left a buck walked in to get some salt. He sniffed the ground at the exact spot she had spooked, put his tail up and took off. This has happened several times since that occation 8 yrs ago and I've always felt they secrete a danger scent somehow. Here is a short quote from an article I read written by TR Michaels who is a deer behavioral biologits. "The metatarsal gland on the outside of the leg is largest in mule deer, next largest in blacktails and smallest in whitetails. It's been suggested that blacktails, and possibly mule deer, use metatarsal scent when alarmed to express danger. The use of this gland is not totally understood in whitetails. "
