I finally killed the buck I have been chasing for a year
TREESTANDMAN replied to bowsniper's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
NICE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a beautiful buck. So cool that you killed the exact buck you were after. -
That is one beautiful, symetrical, unique and huge buck!!! Congrats!! Not to take anything away from that buck you killed but it appears to me that he has digressed a little bit? Shorter G2's for instance. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to know the shed sets gross score using the same spread.

I've got an Archery Bull Elk hunt starting next week and was wondering if any of you have tried using a decoy when calling? And if so what your impressions are? Thx, Mike
-
Holy swords!!! That bull is huge!! That got me really pumped for the hunt. Thx for the picture and response.

Thankyou Doug for the valuable info. I'll be hunting for 8 days so hopefully I can have an experience w/ a Monarch bull coming in. I'm figuring most of the bigger bulls will have their harems so calling in cows using this decoy could also bring the bigger herd bulls within range. Man I can't wait!!!

Thx for the response Jamaro. I'm thinking it may be very effective to use while calling without a partner. It should in theory limit the number of bulls hanging up just out of bow range like they frequently do when you don't have a partner 70 yds behind you. I purchased the montana elk III decoy and plan on trying it out so hopefully I'll have a good report when I return.

Nice buck! So much for the drought excuse.

Nice buck Mike!! Seems like you take one every year w/ your bow.

TAM and I were able to get out 2 weekends ago. We watched a couple of homosexual 5*5 bulls, saw a huge cinnomon phase bear, and saw around 100 cows w/ a few small bulls mixed in. Everything was as green as I've ever seen w/ a few roads closed from the rain. I'm thinking the rut should be great this year!!! -

Good luck to you Mark! I know you have a put a lot of work in your scouting efforts. I hope you are able to take that nice buck. To be completely honest w/ you I think that buck would go just under 80" even though he is a very nice looking buck that any archer should be thrilled with. The main problem I see "scorewise" is tine length and lack of mass. His eyeguards are both short, short g2's, and really short g3's. His main beams are decent, maybe 15" and decent spread of around 12 inches. I see around 22" of mass. 30" in main beams 12" spread 15" in total tine length with a total gross score of 79". Definately a nice buck! -
Bowhunter tries to close road with boulders on Saturday
TREESTANDMAN replied to bowsniper's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
A waterhole and a salt plot are 2 very different things. You may have several hunters scouting a public waterhole and putting forth equal amounts of effort to hunt it. First come first serve, no exception on a water tank. Even better if a hunter leaves a note w/ a phone # to call and work out which days to hunt. In my opinion, you just don't hunt someone else's salt plot. Go find your own spot. -

WOW!!!!!!! What a toad! That gets the blood going. From the 1st post all I see are a bunch of red x's but I do see the buck Redbeard posted. At that angle, it is kind of hard to tell if he has a 4th tine on the left side? Awesome mass and bases on that guy! That is what my dreams are made of. Good luck to you both! I hope you get to ground check him. -

I was up there last weekend and a bunch of the forest roads were closed. Seems like the elk may be spread out but the hunters will be concentrated
