That is definately not a mature lion and could be male or female. I would probably have shot it as well being so close and in a crouched position. G&F does say spotted kitten so I was wrong, I think it is legal. Very cool story Kaffer!!!! I'm sure you had a major adrenaline rush from that!

I know this may ruin the mood but isn't it illegal to shoot kittens? I know I sound like a jerk but that looks like a kitten to me. I may be wrong but you could possibly get into trouble if a G&F officer saw that post?

Nice finds Gino!!!

These pics are from mid october of last year

The last one was of two bulls fighting but it keeps saying it is too large. I have made it as small as possible but it still will not let me post it.

another of the same bull

I think this bull is a 360-370ish bull.

I worked at bear mountian for several years and they do have a large Mathews selection. They also have a consignment rack of used bows and usually have several of the older mathew models like the sq2,ultra2, fx,conquest etc for decent prices. Sometimes they will even except trade-ins.

Nice looking shed!!
-
I was right behind Tim when he spotted this shed. We were both on quads and this shed was maybe 40 yds from the quad trail. Pretty amazing that he found the other side after 4 1/2 yrs. The base and eyeguard is definately chewed or broke off. Doing a rough field score the 4 cirum measurments on the recent shed total just over 16" Assuming the same distance from the base of it's g2 to the burr, this pair should go just over 120 gross! He also found an ok 3 point mule deer shed right off the side of the quad trail. We saw several muley bucks and a couple of whitetail as well. A spike, forky, little 3*3, and a pretty decent 3*3. Tim saw the whitetail and wasn't able to make out any headgear.

I also shoot a mathews. I like the balance, harmonic dampers, and the grip is perfect for me. I shoot the fastest of them, the ultra 2 and have been nothing but satisfied. It is a little less forgiving than the switchback or legacy, but a little more compact and lighter. You can get a new ultra 2 bare bow for around $400.

Another elk/deer slayer taken out
TREESTANDMAN replied to GRONG's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I agree that coyotes are a big obstacle to fawn survival. Last January I had a coyote chase an adult doe under my treestand. Three months ago I witnessed a coyote chasing another doe in that same area. And about 4 months ago I heard a fawn screaming and shortly thereafter a coyote running from a doe that was right on his heels. Coyotes are constantly harrassing these deer I think. -

Couesnut, The scrape phase of the rut usually starts in late november from what I have found and just gets better until about the end of december. I prefer to archery hunt the last 2 weeks of december. The buck are always rutting that early. Most archery hunters do not compete w/ gun hunters during the december hunt anyway. I don't think I've ever seen a gun hunter up in the pines where I archery hunt. Even in the lower southern units there aren't enough december rifle tags to cause conflicts between archery hunters and gun hunters. I've recieved several surveys from AZGFD by email. I've found that typically the ridges and points that have hunters glassing from are close to roads. To avoid that you may want to try getting off the roads. -
Has anyone seen pics the Mattausch Buck?

I see no reason to shorten the archery seasons. In December/ January the # of deer taken by archery equipment is very low in comparison to the rifle hunts. Normally the areas that bucks are taken from by archery hunters during the winter hunts are in the thicker pines/oaks where most rifle hunters avoid anyway due to the inability to glass effectively. This helps to balance out the buck population by area.
