G&F Deer survey coming out soon
TREESTANDMAN replied to ThomC's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I am a little mystified as to why this is even a proposal?? Who is coming up w/ these genius ideas? It is painfully obvious the majority of the AZ hunting population do not want to sacrifice quality for quantity. I think these proposals may be stemming from a survey that was done quite a while ago. In the survey the question was asked how we felt about our odds of getting drawn in Az for certain species? or something to that effect. It was unanimous that hunters were dissatisfied w/ the draw odds w/ is pretty much the obvious response. Most hunters would think to themselves, "if I enter dissatisfied, AZGFD will change that. I guess our brilliant AZGFD managment decided this meant we would also be in favor of lowering our opportunity's for trophy hunts in order to provide more average hunts. I am very opposed to this as I assume the majority of us are. -
That is a great picture!

Good call Kevin. Apache 7mm, I'd be up for this competition. Lets here the rules?

WOW!!! Now that would be awesome!! A lion and a pig on one hunt. Congrats on both your trophy's and congrats to your buddy for glassing that lion up!! You gonna get a full body mount? ps. I was also about 20 feet from a lion in 2004. Unfortuately all I had was a 4" blade buck knife and I was more concerned about being the hunted than actually doing the hunting.

Rattling Coues....Pros and Cons

I think Josh Epperson has rattled bucks in from cold calling. He posted something on this last year from his January archery hunt. -

All right, all right. I would really love one of them cameras, I just have to downplay it since it is over my budget. -
Cellular Game Camera

It would depend on your setup. For example, If you were hunting a salt plot that had does coming in and on wednesday morning you start getting instant pictures of bucks hanging around a doe in estrus that regulary hits that salt, call in sick and you have yourself a guaranteed buck. It could also predict the rut phases and intensity w/out driving out to your spot. Not a complete give-a-way but getting a little close to it. -

That is nuts!!! It would be a blast to have but it takes too much of the fair chase away imo. -
oops, had the wrong buck. This is an edited post.

TREESTANDMAN replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Does look like i'ts from the same buck. That is amazing he was so far from the sheds. What a hog!!!! What did he score? Looks like his rack digressed a little even though he is still a monster. -

Rattling Coues....Pros and Cons
TREESTANDMAN replied to AZ~Rich's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Great response TAM. I also think that like people, bucks do have different personality's. You rattle within range of a curious natured or dominant aggressive buck he'll probably be coming in. I also tried rattling from a treestand several times this january w/ no "immediate" success. On 2 occasions I did have bucks come in within 10 minutes of me doing a grunt sequence. Not sure if it was just luck or if my grunting had anything to do w/ it? -
Great looking buck!!! I wouldn't guess quite that high from the pic but I wouldn't doubt that it scores 112". I'd definately get an official measurment and get that buck in the b&c book!

ArizonaGriz is an official SCI scorer I believe. I think he is in the east valley though.

swaro vs leica
TREESTANDMAN replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
The EL's and Leica 10* binos are exactly the same in clarity and quality. Swarovski's customer service is awesome and resale is easier with the swarovs among hunters. Go w/ the EL swarovs. If it were the SLC's you were considering I'd say go w/ the leicas. -
That is a PERFECT lion!!!! Congrats Tim!!!!!

After this year and last year I'm not so sure coyotes don't take a decent # of adults as well. On 2 occasions I witnessed a coyote chasing a doe, and once a doe chasing a coyote.

Would the score of 243 make the eastern whitetail world record? Seems like I've heard of whitetail scoring higher than that? That sure aint no coues.
