I forgot to mention. My 108" buck came in at 12:43 pm on thursday! I think this daytime only scrape dripper may help for tomarrow. Keeping my fingers crossed anyway!

http://www.archeryelksurvey.com/ This website was posted not too long ago but now it is up and working. I have been drawn for the Nov archery bull in unit 23 and it is not an easy hunt. I hunted very hard and ended up taking a small 4*5. I really don't want them to move tags from the early hunt to the late hunt.

Any decoy experiences yet? I'm interested to know how the deer react.

While treestand hunting on several different occasions I have had deer stop where I had been walking, do their little alarm blow, put their tales up and take off. An hour or so later a buck or another doe will come in, stop in exaclty the same spot the deer was spooked, and do exactly the same thing. I'm convinced deer will excrete some kind of lingering warning scent when alarmed. Any other insight on this?

help me to hunt coues deer
TREESTANDMAN replied to mulie hunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
There are several effective methods to hunt coues deer. I think there was a post last year that had quite a few different tactics. My personal favorite is the called the white flag method. You will need a 3-4 foot pole with a triangular white flag attached to the end. Sit down in your favorite camping chair on a well traveled game trail and make doe bleat sounds while shaking the flag in short, jerky motions. This will undoubtedly draw a coues buck into bow range. They are very curious animals. Make sure to pour a little doe in heat scent onto the flag. As the buck nears bow range, drop the flag and begin grunting (so as not to loose his attention) as you draw back. His curiosity will overcome his desire to flee. -
Beautiful buck!!! Congrats.

Congrats on a nice buck!!!

You guys may be right. I just found it odd because I had walked that trail to my stand and I was suprised that the buck spooked at the exact same spot the doe had spooked even though I hadn't stopped at the spot or sneezed or anything. I wondered if the buck could smell where she had done her wheeze blow snort? These whitetail are amazing!!!

WOW!!!! Another buck of my dreams!! Can't wait to hear the story and hear the official measurments. Definately a boone and crocket buck!!! Would also like to know his circumference measurements. Looks like he has got some great bases and awesome mass throughout. -
WOW!!! Double congrats to you for stalking a Whitetail buck and finishing the job!!! YOu need to change your name to Apache Stalker. I hope to accomplish that someday.

Thanks Coueselk for the great story. Both fine bucks!!! You definately know what you are doing out there.

Nice pics tommy!! Why don't you have cameras on scrapes?

Awesome 2 point RHINO!!! There was another 2 point taken this year that is the largest 2 point by far I've ever seen. The picture is posted somewhere in the hunting arizona section. I think it scored over 100". Thanks for the story!! He's a wall hanger.

All the pics of my 108" buck are at night. I've been doing the camera thing for more than 2 years and night pictures are not that uncommon weather it be on salt, trail, or even water. -
Wow, I used to avoid glassing the really steep country, now I know differently.

Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the update Amanda. From another buddy of mine who drew the late 24A tag I've heard they haven't started rutting that much yet. That should change very soon. So far this winter hasn't been very cold, hopefully a good cold front will come in to increase the bucks activity. More does should be coming into estrus soon which will bring on the 2 day Frenzy period that every hunter loves. Great pictures.

I've got 3 pictures of the 4pt that I think will go 108" I was going to hold off posting them until I killed him but maybe I'll get a wild hair and post his pics sooner. He is a WHOPPER, thats for sure. -

He is a 3*3 with eyeguards. I have the benefit of zooming in on the pictures so I have studied his rack. He would be a great buck if his G3's were more developed. It is hard to see in the picture but is left main beam does curve around more and the G3 on his left side is and inch or two longer than the right side. He may very well go over 90". I wouldn't hesitate to shoot this buck if I didn't already have a buck that I think will go 107-112" scouted out. This buck I'm refering to is a 4*4 with eyeguards, good spread, long main beams, good mass on the main beams, and an awesome crooked g3 that has got to be 7-8 inches long. I will post pictures of him when I take him in January. I'm taking a whole week off to hunt this bad boy. -

Thanks Amanda! I can't get my computer to post them. So what do you folks think this buck will score? I will be first and guess around 85-90". -
rthrbhntng, What an awesome buck!! Congrats on a buck of a lifetime.

I see 3 deer.

Redman, Thats how I try to do it too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is too complicated for me. Keep it simple. What if the deer is in an opening and there is nothing parallel to you? Not saying it wouldn't work, just saying it would only apply to certain situations and it requires too much time and movement to rangefind the deer and object parallel to yourself. For me if I shoot at anything at a fairly steep angle from 10-30 yds, a low heart shot at that buck's distance will be a double lung. As the angle becomes less steep, you will aim a little higher up on the deer using the yardage pin the deer coincides with.
