    DEFINITIONS

I'm going to say up to 65" would be a small buck. Since 65"+ qualify for Boone and Crocket, I will say 65 to 79" is a decent buck. 80" to 90" is a big buck. 90" to 99" is huge. 100" to 110" is a toad. 111-120" Monster. 120+ every hunters dream.

  14. I'm considering putting in for the unit A or B coues res hunt. Do any of you have experience with either unit? How is the coues population and antler quality typically? Any info would be appreciated. Unit D is just out of my budget.

    Deer Bating?

Eagarcoues, sorry if I offended you. I do personally feel it is different and mabye less challenging to hunt deer over certain foods than it would be over water, salt, or scrapes. You took a great buck and I congratulate you on that. Pm if you want and I will give you my reasons on why I think it is different. Congrats on a great buck. I'm sure you put some good work and time into it. I understand where you are coming from and agree to some point.

    Deer Bating?

Legal:yes ethical:Up to the person Eagar coues, not completely correct, It is illegal to bait bear AND migratory birds in AZ. If Baiting gets more popular it will soon be illegal to bait any animal in AZ. You sure took a nice buck but it would have been about 10 times more impressive had it been fair chase.

looks like you made a good hit.

    What will you aim for?

Already killed my 20" toad this year. In January I'll be holding out for a 100" buck. Recently got pictures of a buck that looks to gross around 110". Will probably be shooting for him. I'm bound and determined not to shoot a small buck. I have really regretted taking that spike this year. The steaks were great though!

where to bow hunt for wts

I've heard unit 45 holds some great coues deer. Pretty much all units you can put in for rifle coues hold some great bucks. You just have to do your homework and find good areas. I would start out close to water sources wherever you decide to scout.

    Poll

Scott, That is very interesting. Sounds like all of us may be pronouncing it incorrectly. Red Rabbits post seems to correlate with yours as well. Looks like the correct pronunciation is either "cuse" or "cowse" like "grouse". I will continue to use cooz because that sounds best in my opinion.

    Poll

The correct way has since changed. Now the correct pronunciation is coos. Not COWS.

    Jeff Hough's Unit 1 Coues

Nice buck!! Thank you for sharing the pictures and the story. I know unit one is not a very popular unit for Coues deer but it sure holds some good sized ones. I'd love to see some better pictures of your bucks rack if possible. The angle and distance doesn't quite do him the 106" justice he deserves. Also love to see pics of your buddies monster and some of those live photos. This over by Coyote?
