My 10 min Opening Morn. Hunt

You did good! I agree it is much better to shoot an animal with as many arrows as necessary to make the kill as quick as possible than worry about ruining meat or hide. Those spine shots are nice because they require no tracking. The first buck I shot from a treestand dropped when my arrow when through his brain, and my 2nd buck from a treestand dropped when I spine shot him as well. I put 2 arrows into each of these. My third archery buck which was my last, just dropped w/ a double lung shot.

My 10 min Opening Morn. Hunt

Thats a purdy buck!! Congrats!!! Just out of curiousity, why is there blood on 3 of your arrows? Lets here the story!!
  3. That will teach you to sleep in!! I bet your adrenaline was pumping pretty good. Cool experience. Maybe next time you will have a chance at a bigger buck.

    2nd Day Buck

I was going to guess high nineties. That buck looks to have really nice base circumferences. What did the bases measure? Actually all of his circum measurments should be pretty good. Is the g4 on his left side measurable? He's a mounter, thats for sure.

Did anyone see or get a bear this

I was out scouting a few weeks ago and walked up on a bedded bear. He was about 15 yds away, watched me for a few seconds and then ran straight up the steep slope and circled around to run right by TAM. It was a smaller adult bear, probably a sow. Pretty cool experience though.

    Phoenix Gun Stores??

Just the other day I went to AZ sportsmans on Stapley/Southern. I waited about 20 minutes to see a pistol while I watched the representative brag to his store buddy about how great a hunter he was. AZ Sportsmans has always had terrible service in the gun department that I can remember. Bear Mountain has a couple ok customer service reps but they also have the worst of the worst whose name I won't mention and higher prices. SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE has better customer service, lower prices, and a much larger selection. If Bear Mountain and AZ Sporstmans want to stay in business they better hire some new employees or change their attitudes.

    Hoof VS Fist

That story is priceless!!! I would enter that into an outdoor magazine or readers digest or something. Thanks for sharing.
  12. TAM and I have done some experiments w/ different products. For example, placing a deer cocaine block 15 feet from some water softener salt and seeing which product gets more action based on our trail camera pictures. I've tried black magic, deer cocaine in all its forms, salt blocks, bashas salt, stump liker, rasperry blocks, apple blocks, and more. We know which ones deer prefer and which ONE drives deer absolutely crazy!!! I would tell you which one works the best BUT that would be too easy and you'll have so much more fun experimenting yourselves. TAM and I have learned however that deer prefer salt pellets less concentrated as opposed to straight out of the bag. This is in my mind a fact based on our evidence.
  13. Bowhuntcoues, those are both great bucks!!! Awesome eyeguards and a little trash on the bottom picture. Hopefully he sprouts another tine on his right side. Keep them pictures coming!! That top one may be a large 2 pt. Fling--- on that bottom buck.

    Deer and piggies in January

42M holds some great muledeer. That is right in your backyard. I've heard there are some whopper Carp in 37B in the flats which is even closer.

    Bowhunting skills

Heck yes!! Napoleon is awesome!!! I think next year I will try my bowhunting skills out on a Liger. I also need to cut down on the whole milk and drink 1% cause I think I'm fat. Hopefully I will draw a bull tag and all my wildest dreams will come true. Man I love technology.

    Unit 32 Mule Deer ?

Wetmule, I have to disagree w/ your post on methods of hunting. I personally have spent many hours, miles and bootrubber in the field scouting for big bucks and areas that hold good deer sign. I thoroughly enjoy the suspense and adrenaline I get from checking my trailcamera and finding out what bucks roam the country I have spent so much time scouting. I enjoy comparing this bucks growth with last years bucks growth, studying a bucks markings and traits so that I can recognize them in the stand. It is nice to sit in a treestand knowing that a 100" buck is in the area and knowing that you have worked so hard to have his movements patterned. I hunt scrapes, rubs, water and salt with my bow and can tell you from a lot of experience that these methods require dedication and a LOT of hard work or they will be fruitless. It is much easier and more effective to go out and glass up a big buck and shoot him w/ a rifle than using these methods you are criticizing. Glassing up and shooting carp like you've done for the past 20 years with a rifle and guiding is a great accomplishment Wetmule, but go and kill a good buck with a bow using these methods and you may not be so quick to call it unethical. Everyone is different and enjoys different methods of hunting. Remember also that there are many different types of terrain. I would be crazy to hunt the areas I hunt using a glassing and spot and stalk method. I also enjoy the spot and stalk method and if and when I draw a rifle tag, that is the method I prefer.
  18. I've been patterning that toad for quite a while now as well. We'll see who gets him first. That is a very nice looking picture on a serious note.

    Antler Growth/Polish timing

Tam and I just got a picture of a nice buck that appears to be done or close to it. We also had pictures of bucks that we know will be bigger that are far behind this one. I think mid septemeber would be the safe bet.

    lion kill

I got pretty lucky w/ that guess. Usually I'm a few inches off. I thought one of his dads bucks on the wall would go mid nineties and it was actually 88". I scored another one of his dads bucks with awesome mass to the tips of every tine and he scored just over 105". It is a typical 3*3 but his dad shot one of the antlers off at its base so we guessed the inside spread at 13". Dan H, Let me know where you live and if it is fairly close I'd love to come over and check out your sheds.

I'm going to do just what Lark would do. I'm going to poach him. Not really. TAM and I will be hopeing to draw that tag next year.

    lion kill

That is a great buck w/ really good main beams, good g2's, decent mass, a 5th point that is coutable on the left side. I would guess this rack at about 105". Take it to a taxidermist or ask someone who knows how to score and let us know what he scores!!! Beautiful rack!!
