I would spend some quality time this September trying to arrow that bad boy on the left over water. Make sure to wait until september so he is maxed out. VERY NICE BUCK!!!

I have a polaris and love it to death. I find it very useful in helping me get through rough 4wd roads that I would be afraid to take with 4wd pickup. Using quads are also more time efficient and manuverable on these tough roads. It really irritates me when I see quad tracks off road and I know that a lot of hunters hunt from there quads which is against the law. My quad allows me to get to some very remote waterholes that would othewise take me all day to hike to, and I consider it one of my most valuable hunting and scouting tools. It is also a lot of fun to go trail riding w/ my wife and seeing new country on a quad. You guys that hate quads are missing out.

I just realized I have MLK day off so I will go out for pigs in unit 22 on monday. I haven't done any scouting for pigs so I will probably just to to a spot I have seen pigs in the past and glass all day long. I just hope I don't see a toad now that my 2005 deer tag is used up. -
Just take your bow. Do you have to register a new gun? Maybe you could take your gun to a gunsmith and get it fixed today?

Is there anyway you can go back b4 the hunt is over?

What a heartbreaking experience! I'm sure you will get him next year. Did you find out what happend to your rifle yet? Had you dropped or banged it?

I bought the Tikka t3 hunter in .270 wsm. I am very pleased w/ it's performance. It is also very light. The only thing I'm not real crazy about is the plastic manufactured magazine. I recommend it.

Due to the storms we have been having I haven't been able to hunt quite as much as I had hoped this january. The first weekend in January I was able to sit one of my treestands and I was fortunate enough to have a 100+ inch buck come in but unfortunately did not offer me a shot. Talk about a rush of adrenaline!!! The next time I was able to go out was wednesday after a huge snowstorm and I did not see one deer or elk that whole day. The next time I went out was monday the 10th. The weather was perfect. I watched a forky chase a doe 50 yds away or so. Then I had a loan doe come into my salt, she bedded down about 15 yds in front of me for about 20 minutes, then casually walked away from me into some thick oaks. About 15 minutes later I heard her whissle blow and she came running towards me at full speed. About 30 yds behind her was a very large coyote right on her tail. I didn't have enough time to bring my bow back but I doubt he got to her. That was a cool experience. About 20 minutes later I watched 4 does start walking towards me from a distance. I am praying that the 100+ buck is with them. I can make out a deer behind them through the brush but unfortuately it is a spike. The deer cautiously came in slowly until all 4 does are at the salt and the little buck is just kind of sniffing around. I had multiple opportunities to shoot him but I wanted to wait for Mr. Toad. After about 15 minutes it starts to snow. I'm thinking to myself, my wife is due in August and probably wont let me go out at all until next year, I've still got a pig tag to fill, I'm out of deer meat. I decided to take the spike. I will get the big boy next year.

There have been some great posts here. Like TAM said, the location of the stand is probably the most important factor in seeing deer from the treestand. I think it is also important not to have the stand too close to the trail, scrape, salt or water. These deer can detect the slightest irregular noise and movement. I like to have brush below and above me in most situations. It is also important to fight off discouragement and impatience while in the stand. You must expect to go hours w/ out seeing any deer and still be patient. Limit your movements. I notice I see quite a few more deer when I am completely still for long periods of time. Do everything possible to eliminate scent. Most of the deer that spook will have spooked because of human scent in my experience at least. When there are does at your location, be careful not to spook them. When bugered, I believe they release a "danger aroma" as a warning to other deer that will come through. I have witnessed this. These are just a few tips that have helped me in treestand hunting. The most important thing if you want to get a buck from a treestand is to spend as much time as possible in the tree. It is weird how some days you will see tons of action and some days you will not. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to be a dad.

Bcoover, Did you see any toad? Any cool experiences?

All I see is a red X. It makes me mad. I always have to wait for Amanda to post it on the main page to see the bucks! I need to get a computer at home. -
Looking for a good taxidermist

Those are beautiful mounts. I recognize that bottom buck as Dan Kings. Does anyone know why his buck was not recognized as the nontypical world record? Maybe this should be a different post. -
Some cool bear pics

That is one awesome looking bear!!! I can't tell if his snout is kind of red because of the sun or what! Thanks for posting the pic!! -

Looking for my late grandads hunting buddy?
TREESTANDMAN replied to gonhntn's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I tried some rattling and grunting on Saturday. I didn't have any success but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. -
It is legal to hunt over salt as long as you are wearing hunter orange pants and standing on one foot. It does get a little tiring some times but you can always switch feet.

It is not necessary to point them north. I have mine facing all different directions and I rarely have blank pictures. And I have the cheap stealth cams. -

Come on now. Just because the javies smell bad doesn't mean the meat tastes bad. Give it a try and don't think about the dead pigs smell and it will be a great experience. -
Salt licks work well but it may take some time to get it established. You should start one now and the you can set up a treestand over it for next year. Location is the most important thing when deciding on where to place salt.

Sure there is. You call it luck. The more time you spend out hunting and scouting the more lucky opportunities you will have. When I got my first bow my uncle offered me the opportunity to sit his treestand. About 20 minutes after I got into the treestand a buck walked right up to the tree I was in. It was a 7 yd shot.
