Grayghost, Come on man! Us stupid white men deserve to be charged up the ying yang to hunt on sacred res land. Heck, they even charge us to drive through res land to get to national forest land. As if the money they make from their casino's and get from the government is not enough to buy their beer and frybread. I'm not racist.

The best unit in the state is undoubtably unit 46A for Coues deer. I don't think any hunter here will disagree w/ me on that one.

Scoring coues racks

That is what I figured. 4 measurments per side. I was looking at Dan Kings buck and it appears to have 3 main beams. -
Gnoto, this is Mike your cousin. That area is still producing lots of toads.

quads and hunting
TREESTANDMAN replied to ultramag's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Polaris and Honda are the two most popular hunting 4 wheelers. I researched both quads in depth and decided to go w/ the Polaris. The surveys I did had the majority preferring polaris over honda however I don't think you can go wrong w/ either one. I love my Polaris. -
Hey you guys, this message is for Tthrasher and Tthrasher alone. Stay away from my honeyhole.

Scrape hunting is effective if done correctly. If you are going to scrape hunt the time to do it is now. Towards the latter end of dec and into January the scrape action has ended and the bucks are either tending or chasing does.
-
Thats good to hear the rut is picking up. My buddy just shot a buck in southeastern AZ, said the bucks were chasin does. I will let him give the details.
-
Tthrasher, I will tell you exactly where to go to find tons of bucks and pigs. Take Mt. Champago turnoff. Drive west 3.4 miles. Park your car on the side of the road on the north side. Go straight north down into the canyon and follow the bottom of the canyon east for 1.6 miles. From there head north again and climb to the top of the ridge. You will see a large canyon w/ 2 bowls and a long saddle. Glass the bowl on the right side and you will find pigs and bucks everywhere. Good luck and don't tell anyone about this spot. It is a family secret we have had for years.

Yeah right Lark. I heard about that little 12*13 taken from the res. It scores like 340.

And Happy Hanukkah to any Jewish hunters out there.

25-06, the breeze does have a point however if you shoot your bow everyday for the next week or so the string should break in and stretch to it's max. Just make sure you limit your shots to the range you are accurate at and after shooting it a while be sure to paper tune your broadheads and practice w/ them. Your bow will probably have to be resighted after screwing the broadheads on. Good luck.

Spent friday and saturday in unit 31. We glassed for many hours regularly glassing up groups of does w/ no bucks around. We also glassed up 4 different groups of pigs. The only buck we glassed was alone at about 10 am showing no signs of rut activity. He was a good buck w/ long main beams and good mass that I think would have scored mid nineties. He was in the thick stuff and slipped away while we closed the gap. I'm hoping next week the rut activity will be better. It is strange how different areas in the state have different levels of rut activity.

Well Fellow hunters, TAM and I are off to southeastern AZ to see if we can't tag wall mounters. Good luck to everyone. Be safe and hunt hard.
-
PSE hunter, how old are you?? In the picture you look kinda young for harvesting that many bucks.
-
TAM, I just hope I can keep you from sticking your tag on the first buck I shoot. Good luck everyone.
-
I'm going to have to harvest that size buck if I am going to beat Bcoovers 130 inch buck, and that is what I aim to do.
-
Bcoover, I will be in unit 31 dec late hunt. I'm going after a 143 inch coues buck w/ a 28 1/2 inch spread. Just wait and see.

Thanks Amanda, it worked.

TRAIL CAMERAS ARE ILLEGAL!!!!
TREESTANDMAN posted a topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I just called the NF to see if I could get permission to get one of my cameras that was close to a burn area and the officer told me it was illegal to have a trailcamera on National forest w/out a permit. They told me I had to come down to buy a permit asap or they would charge me a $500 fine. -
I just wanted to get some of your guy's opinions and exeriences on what you have seen in coues batchelor herds. Have you seen small spikes and forkies w/ big mature bucks or have they usually been all fairly small or all big?
-
Very interesting Truefletch. Have you noticed the same thing in August/September?
-
Thanks for the congrats, The trail cameras helped a lot and TAM from this site is the one that originally showed me the area with all the bears. Utah in my opinion has some of the most beautiful and remote country in the US. Tomarrow I will be sitting over salt where I have got pictures of a big one so we will see if I get lucky. Good luck.
