				New way of hunting discovered!!!!
TREESTANDMAN replied to donniedent's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
The fish and game has made it clear that it is illegal to road hunt, and that includes off of a quad. The problem is that it is too difficult do tell wheather someone is actually road hunting or just driving from one place to the other. Someone would actually have to shoot at a buck or bull from the road and be witnessed doing it to be given a fine and the chances of that are pretty slim. -
Thanks for the good info Coues Addict.

In my experiences, most of the batchelor herds I have seen have been small to midsized bucks. All of the 90+ inch bucks have been solo during the summer. I know that this is not the norm, that is just what I have witnessed. Maybe the bigger bucks tend to stray from their buddy's?
 -
So it would be pretty normal to see a 100 inch buck running w/ a spike and a forky????

Casey, Arizona guide was just fine in his post about the bear. He did not personally attack anyone and just left his feelings about not recovering a shot animal. I feel the same way. Your post was a personal attack.

You will probably get different answers from different officers on that one. I was told using anything for the purpose of baiting bears is illegal wheather it be a natural kill or whatever.
 -
Thanks for the advise Lark. You definately have a lot more experience than I do so you very well may be right. I do have a strong opinion about waiting at least 1/2 hour after putting a good hit on an animal and even longer w/ a gut shot unless you see the animal go down. I have known too many hunters that have gone after the animal right away and the animals adrenaline kicks in and they never recover it.
 -
	Still illegal.
 -
Shooting a bear over a gut pile is illegal.
 -
It is illegal to harvest a bear over any kind of bait I believe. I'm sure that if a F&G officer caught you hunting over peanut butter he would probably assume you were baiting bear and he could cite you. Hunting over salt on the other hand I doubt would be a problem though even though bears like salt.
 -
	Thats my point.
 -
Nice tag!!! The big bulls are still there, just not quite as easy to locate.
 -
I bet the bears do too.
 -
I use bashas water softener pellets for my salt plots and they work great. The deer will hit the salt pretty consistently depending on the concentration of deer in the area and the moisture in the air.

A high 370 bull in my opinion is better than a decent bull!!!!

				Lion Stalking deer
TREESTANDMAN replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
That stinks. -
Lark, I'll have to disagree w/ you on that one. Although bears may have thicker hides, I believe a well placed arrow w/ a sharp broadhead will do the exact same thing on any animal in north america. The bear I just harvested was double lunged, ran about 15 yds, let out a groan and expired. I don't want to preach too much because I am guilty of gut shooting a buck and never finding it, I just think that it is all in shot placement.

Saw a 360+ bull in unit 22 on Monday. Had only 5 cows w/ him. Was able to watch hime at about 60 yds through my bino's for a minute or 2. Very nice bull!!!!

Well fellow hunters, this will be my last post for about a week, I will be spending the whole week trying to arrow a bear and hopefully a 90+ buck. GOOD LUCK to you all!!!! Hunt hard, carry plenty of water, and watch out for rattlers. I hope we have some good stories to tell.

				Need advice on handguns
TREESTANDMAN replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Handgun Hunting for Coues Deer
25-06, First of all I have no scanner nor access to one or I would post it and many other pictures. Secondly, The lion is so far away in the picture that you have to use a magnifying glass to see it well. You can tell it is a lion w/out one but it is not real clear. The only other reason I cannot mail it into Amanda is that this spot was shown to me by a friend w/ an oath to keep it confidential. -

TREESTANDMAN replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Handgun Hunting for Coues Deer
Last night I broke down and bought a .357 ruger revolver. After my lion experience I was able to get my wifes permission to buy a handgun. I also have a picture of me with two rocks in my hand and the lion in the background on the other side of the pond. The picture was taken by my trail camera which I had set right before the lion encounter. I sure wish I would have had that .357 when it happened!! -

The picture was taken in Oregon. -
	Just finished it.

I've got trail camera pictures of some 70-80 inch bucks that I don't want to shoot w/ my bow since I drew a december whitetail hunt. This will be the true test of how much self control I have.
