If you want a trophy buck, try hunting the pine/pinyon country in higher elevations w/ elk. Hard to glass but the country should hold trophy bucks due to low hunting pressure.

AZ Griz, Those pictures have inspired me to increase my scouting efforts!!!! What a buck!!! Thank you.

				TRAIL CAMERAS ARE ILLEGAL!!!!
TREESTANDMAN replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Recurveman, The issue has been resolved. I appreciate your great wisdom though. The Ranger who threatend me has been centured and embarrased for his unecessary threatenings. I am glad this has happend. -
What unit was the picture taken in?
 -
My buddy called for an hour and nothing came in. I plan on sitting that during archery season so hopefully I will get lucky and have him come in to drink during shooting hours.

Muskrat, I have used estrus scents, grunt tubes, and deer bleats. I think that a lot of people don't use them because it is hard to cold call them in. If you actually see a buck and use a grunt tube/bleat, it may or may not decide to investigate. Most hunters will try stalking it having it unaware of human presence than trying a grunt and having it run off because it was intimidated etc. I personally love calling animals and will continue to use these devices. I have experienced some sucess w/ estrus beads this last december and I have called a doe in w/ a doe bleet to about 10 yds away. My cousin grunts in big bucks every year from his treestand although I don't know exactly how he does it. I know Josh Epperson has rattled them in.

It did feel good to know that he chose the same spot I had for the ground blind. My buddy went out this morning to try to call one in at that same spot. Should know w/in a few hours if he got him.

I also think it was kind of funny that I started the "Lion experiences" topic a few months ago and was able to have this experience.
 -
Yes, if I would have had a hand gun or any gun for that matter, I would have tagged my first lion yesterday. I had a tag w/ me in my wallet. I will be getting that .357 very soon.

I shoot a mathews ultra 2. I'm very satisfied. Any bow out there will kill a deer though. They are pretty much all good bows.

				TRAIL CAMERAS ARE ILLEGAL!!!!
TREESTANDMAN replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Most of my experiences w/ police officers/game officers have been bad ones also. It seems like being a prick is a qualification to becoming a law enforcement officer. I have however encountered a few good LEO's that gave me the benefit of the doubt and seemed to be good humble guys trying enforce the law w/out going on a power trip. I had a fish and game officer one time give me some pointers about where the bucks hung out in one area and that helped my opionion of the F&G. -
Does anyone know if it is more expensive to shoulder mount a buck in velvet as opposed to hard horned?

I just talked to a high authority in National forest law enforcement and he says that according to him, having a trail camera on national forest is not violating any laws. He will be talking to Bo Acosta and setting things straight. What a relief. I guess it was just a different interpretation of the law. -

Bo is the one threatening to cite me for $500. He also told me he is going to confiscate the camera and take the film. Do you guys think that is legal for him to do w/out permission? After all it is not his property. -

If anyone has any questions about its legality please call either Art Wirts (District Ranger) at 480-610-3300 or Bo Acosta (Law enforcement officer) at 480-610-3307. -

There is no 14 day rule according to the forest service. I asked them. -

The law enforcement officer, Bo Acosta, says he is going to get the camera and then cite me. The penalty is $500. I will definately take it to court because I had no idea it was against the law. They will not let me back there because the roads are closed due to the willow fire road construction. -
Up at the Kiabab one year I drew back on a buck that was 15 yds away. As I drew back my arrow fell to the ground and my nock stayed attached to the string. As I took the nock off and put a new arrow on frantically, the deer moved off a bit. Thinking in my mind it must have gone a ways w/ all that time I guessed him for 40 yds when he was actually 20 and shot over his back. Good thing he was only a forky.

I'd give an arm and a leg for that tag. I do a lot of hunting around kohls ranch and below and there are a lot of bulls in there.
 -
I would concentrate around the 4 peaks wilderness area. Lots of good bulls in there.
 -
Lark, Do you have any pictures of deer in the photo gallery? Just want to put a face to the name.
 -
Sure ya do, I bet its uphill both ways too.
 -
Lark, I bet you couldn't climb a tree if you wanted to. Don't feel bad, we will all get old sooner or later.
 -
I think it is just fine the way it is.
