Yep Kirk, it would. What you did is added the spread and then muliplied it by two. Thats still one heck of a buck though!!!!

VERY VERY NICE!!!!!! Sounds like your dreams could possibly come true this season! Hopefully he hasn't been taken by a hunter or lion.

You are right about the weather in Dec/Jan. Don't want to get caught in a blizzard in that area. My father and I were rifle hunting mule deer in unit 1 once and made the mistake of not checking into weather conditions. We got caught in a very bad blizzard. Luckily we had chains for the tires and were able to make it out safely.

There is some rough country about 15 miles north of clifton. Kind of midway from the rim on down. Lots of Bears, and lots of BIG coues. The only way I know of to hunt it is by treestand, thus not too many hunters in the really thick areas. I shot a 100+ buck off salt there. Also has some muleys come in. I would say in the area I have hunted it is about half and half. Probably a little more whitetail.

Man, you guys are dedicated hunters. I usally wait till early august before I wipe the dust off my bow and start practicing. I know what you guys mean about being excited for the archery hunting season coming up and especially the rut! From tips posted on this website, doing my own scouting, and with the use of some trail cameras that have become my most valued possesions, I feel like I have become a much better hunter this past year. I think that now I will be able to pass on the smaller bucks and hold out for a trophy, something I have never been able to do in the past. I'm excited to try some new experiments during the rut involving the use of decoys, scents, calling and the use of trail cameras.

All I will say is that it is between alpine and clifton.

WSM, there is an area in unit 1 with some trophy coues whitetail. It is on your way to new mexico and probably about 25 miles from the boarder. My cousins wife found a coues shed in the ceadars that would score very high.

Yep, thats Heath's dad. I've been out w/ him a few times and he is the most quiet careful and in shape hunter I have ever known. He just took a lion w/ a recurve earlier this year. A nice big Tom.

His name is Jerry Hathcock and he lives in Eagar. He used to run hounds up there but now he just archery and muzzleloader hunts. He knows more about coues than anyone I have ever known. Every January he grunts and rattles them into bow range. All of the bucks you will see from the pictures I am about to send in were taken w/ a bow.

I just got back from unit one for the holiday. My cousin who lives up there found and incredible nontypical lion kill shed in unit 27. I took some pictures and will be mailing them to amanda to post. Amanda, could you please email me your mailing address? I am also sending pictures of 3 coues bucks that he got w/ a bow in unit 27, the smallest one scores in the high 90's. The largest I believe he told me netted 113.

27 has some huge coues and muley bucks! There are a lot of hunters that hunt "certain areas". Treestand hunting is very very good there in some secluded thick areas that hold a lot of good bucks. I would not recommend still hunting or rifle hunting those areas though.

27 between Hannagans meadow and Clifton.

What kind of areas do you concentrate in when looking for sheds? Do you spend more time around water? Thicker areas? Saddles? I have found very few sheds in my day and was just wanting some pointers.

I hunt on the San Pedro side and there is little traffic and many deer, pigs and lions.

Thats a good point ernesto. On Jesseshuntingpage.com they have some trail cam pictures supposedly catching hunters relieving themselves. It was in the section of "funniest pictures" or something like that. So yes, when nature calls it would be wise to check your surroundings for cameras and binoculars. I guess this has kind of gotten off the subject. My fault. I hunt unit 32 quite often on the San Pedro side of the galiuros. During the rifle seasons you see most all of the hunters hunting the high country. My friend and I have bowhunted the flats and rolling hills composed of cholla and saguaros and seen some very nice coues bucks along w/ mulies. This is in December and man were we wishing we had rifle tags. I have yet to successfully spot and stalk and actually harvest a coues buck that way. I have sure had a lot of fun trying though and have gotten pretty close to succeeding. -
Yeah, I guess he a taker. I'd shoot him.

NO, this is NOT the same guy that was at my salt a few months ago. This is a completely separate location. The guy that I know that was at my salt a few months ago is an honest guy. -
Check out www.azgfd.com. 2 bikers were recently stalked and chased by a lion and then the 2 game and fish officers that were sent to investigate were stalked and ended up killing the lion. I used to scout w/out being armed, now after reading all of these Lion stories I prefer to have some sort of weapon.

No, but he didn't see my 2nd camera and it got a picture of him carrying it off. I will recognize him when hunting season rolls around. It is a nice big water hole in the pines and some hunter laid some salt about 20 feet from the water. I'm thinking he is the one that thinks it is "his spot" and will be back in august. I just hope I can act rationally when I see him and not shoot a blunt into his rear end. -

I just had a camera stolen from a water hole. Be careful where you set your cameras. -
Draw odds getting worse!

I bet if they shortened the application deadline that would weed out a lot of the less serious hunters and procrastinators. Of course there would be a lot of unhappy hunters and young boys and girls who look forward to all year their daddy's taking them hunting. -

I agree Red Rabbit. I prefer having the G&F take $5/app instead of taking the amount for the whole tag and then refunding it if I am not drawn. If I don't get drawn for a rifle tag, that just means I get to spend more time w/ my bow. -
I think that each individual applicant gets a draw #, each tag would be assigned a #, therefore if there were 4 in your party and only 3 tags left, none of you would be drawn for that unit. The next people in line from 1-3 people would be drawn so I guess there is a fairly good advantage to applying by yourself. I usally apply separately from my wife, father, and friends. That way if one of us gets drawn for a trophy hunt all of us can go along for fun.

DiamondbackAZ hit it right on the money. Very accurate description.
