That's a good place to start. I started mine at 5.5 weeks old as far as hiking, her first time out we found a spike elk lion kill so while the other dogs were in there scavenging I encouraged her and the only toys I've played fetch with her are horns. I went on a hike with her yesterday at 10 months old and she brought me an antelope leg bone that the coyotes got a hold of. She brought me a beef cow skull that is at least 20 years old when we moved into the new place. As far as the Catahoula thing I cant really say cuz the Catahoulas we have and breed are bred on the edge of psycho. But I can share the same advice on them as I do the other dogs I raise. Consistancy is key. And when they challenge you, make sure you win. Make the training process fun. And dont expect the dog to be a rock star everyday. Also, if the dog isnt constantly worked, it's hard for it to know what its job is. We raise and train shed dogs, biggame hounds, blood trail dogs, and coyote decoy dogs and coyote catch dogs along with some hog dogs. So it's our full time job working with the dogs. It's very hard to have the best working dog without the time to do so. Just stay consistent and have fun. Dogs are meant to be fun, and working dogs are the most fun a person can have in their lifetime.

I've had 6 dogs that would pick up sheds. Only 3 I've worked with on actually trying to get them to find them. 1 is a Catahoula/Plott cross the other is a Catahoula. My full Catahoula comes from decoy dog lines. The rest were full Hounds. Start when they are very young. Catahoulas can be very tricky as they are super smart and can be very bull headed. One day they will perform flawlessly, the next they will act like buttheads and make you wanna punch yourself. Just dont give up and dont get too frustrated with it. It will pay off and you'll have an amazing hunting partner.

No actually I didnt. But i had the privilege of catching and releasing some pretty nice bears this year. I dont need to kill a bear to prove the point I was making. That's not why I hunt bears. I hunt bears to make Hounds and enjoy the woods. Have i caught some shooters? Absolutely. But if i punch my tag the dogs dont get to go. So i make a donation to game and fish every year and enjoy my time in the woods. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Our dog got loose from camp near Concho AZ. We believe he got picked up and got loose near St. John's AZ. He got loose Oct 18th. I have had him posted on Facebook and other places since then but we have kinda reached a stand still on sightings of him. We are offering $1000 cash reward for his return. If you know any ranchers or anyone in the area please feel free to share. We would love any help in bringing our boy home. We are absolutely devastated. Thank you for any help. Thank you both. We believe he may have slipped his collar and someone found him thinking he was abandoned due to him being gone for so long. He is freeze branded with a registered freeze brand. The reward is still there. We just want our boy back.

Been out walking the dogs every chance I get. This has been the best year for finding horns for me. Found my first confirmed lion kill, first match set, first nice deadhead (only deadheads I've found have been spikes 🤣🤣). Heres a few pics. A few of the dogs are locating sheds, one brings them back, one runs off with em, and my pup is addicted to them.

Wow! I am so jealous of so many of you. I've always said if I could change anything it would be WHEN I was born, just so I can experience so many great bands back in the day. Saw Megadeth, Testament, and Slayer like 10 years ago? Whenever they did the American Carnage Tour that got postponed. Saw Midland last year, was going to see Willie this year but plans fell through and later realized I was thrilled we didnt get to go lol. Going to see Midland again in October. Had tickets to see AC/DC in Vegas. Ended up not going. Filed for divorce like 4 days later. Yes it was his fault I didnt go 🤣🤣🤣. So AC/DC is probably the band I would have most liked to see in concert.

How easy is this to set up?

I have 6 Five week old hound pups. Mom and dad are both finished bear dogs, both have been on a bunch of cats as well. 2 males and 4 females for sale. Pups are $300 each, will be wormed and have at least first and second rounds of shots. Tails are cropped, about 1/4 of the tail was taken off. If interested in a pup let me know. Goodness. With some of these options I wish I could hire some of you to cook in our camp. We always eat good, or so I thought till I read this. If my friends see this they might stop hunting with me and choose you guys 🤣🤣 now I starving at work. Awesome. Lol

No worries. I get it, lots of folks think we are crazy for not killing them, but once I punch my tag, the dogs cant go anymore. So I keep chasing. Plus it's so awesome to tree the same bear year after year and watch them grow and change.

Sadly it's true. This year has shocked me. Not so much the long range guys or the spot and stalk folks, it's the houndsmen this year. Part of why we use Hounds (or what we all say) is so you can properly identify sex, make sure sows are dry, and have the option to release if it isnt big. I've seen some "big name" hound guys letting people kill bears you could throw in a fanny pack. Sad. Defeats the purpose of having Hounds and makes everyone who drives a hound truck look the same to non hound hunters. I've released giants before, I dont care to kill them. Someday I might, I have hounds to watch them work. Sadly it's become a money game for too many people.

Man that one bears as black as they get! Good job! Set up camp Thursday night, in the rain. Rained pretty much all night, all day friday, all night friday night, saturday around noon decided to cash in the chips and spend the rest of the week off. Didnt run into anyone till saturday then it was like an army moving in. Not gonna waste the time or gas for 1 bear. Wait till some better stuff opens we decided. Was nice to get out though and see some friends and do some camping.

Blow-Out sale. Got 4 dogs, 4 GPS collars, 4 Telemetry collars, 1 Alpha 100 and 1 Telemetry box for sale. Super super fast, can locate from rig to track better then any dog I've ever seen. Super strong tree dog, very gritty, very athletic, absolutely zero dog fight in this dog. He is a proven producer and will not leave a bear. Dead-Pool: red female 3 years old very heavily started dog out of Mike Harris line of dogs. Was started on cats and will slow down and work a bobcat in the dirt. Rides the box real good, will rig, trees good, not afraid to get bit, very good locate dog, just needs a lot more game put under her belt. Very athletic for a bigger female Gerty: redtic female 6 years old finished bear dog, rides the box very well, will rig but still a little unsure of herself at first but then cranks. Will start and trail a bear, very good tree dog, super fast and athletic, small female, pretty loud. Will work a cat track in the snow pretty good, have run a lot of Bobcats in the snow by herself. Proven producer Rowdy: 4 month old redtic Male out of Rugar and Gerty. Has been going on walls with the dogs and I since he was 6 weeks old. Gets around very good. Has started opening and running to the big dogs if they strike and burn out. All these dogs handle without a leash. You do not need to shock them to get them back. You do not need a leash from the kennel to the truck, tree to the truck, or truck to the track. None of these dogs fight over game, food, or space. These dogs have all lived together and grown up together and would make someone a great addition to their current pack or a solid little pack themselves. 4 TT-15 collars with reflective straps, charger clips and cords. 4 Johnsons 216 collars with tree switches and very low hours on new batteries. 1 Tracker Maxima 5000 box with canvas case. 1 Alpha 100 with screen protector, gray Gizmo case, Shorter antenna, and telescoping antenna with black handle.
