    Rrrrrattle Rattle

My experience has been the opposite, out of the hundreds I have been around only 5 ish didn’t rattle. The ones that don’t rattle usually aren’t ready to strike, they are moving away so no worries there. Only 1 that a can recall didn’t rattle and was striking. He was a grumpy little prairie rattler.

    Rrrrrattle Rattle

We run into them all the time. They are no big deal at all. When you get near they rattle and let you know they are around, simply move away from the rattle if you cant see them. General when you first encounter them they will coil and rattle, the second encounter is more likely to provoke a strike. Meaning the first guy walking the trail steps near or on him isn't as likely to get bit as the second guy right behind him. Be in the lead hahaha. August Sept when monsoons hit snake are most active and odds of encounters increase. Humid river bottoms are hot spots for snakes, odd are better to find them. Avoid those kind of places if you can. They shouldn't concern you much just be aware and keep eyes open, they are actually kind of cool to see. I use to kill them all, now I let them be unless they are in a bad spot. I had a big black tail a couple years ago stand his ground on a trail when I was leading a pack string. Middle of now where on a steep hill side and I couldn't get him to slither off so he had to go.

    AZGFD banning yote contest!!!

As you type on social media, a bit of irony eh!! You are correct that social media changed everything but there isn’t an age group at fault. Some poor decisions by a few have made huge ramifications for all of us. Hopefully we can get smart and quit lighting torches on our own a$$

Confidence building in teens, what have you done?

Any sports, 4H, FFA, shooting sports get her involved. 4H and FFA do a excellent job with building leadership skills. Team sports do a great job building confidence
  8. I agree they don’t care. They are all about stirring up emotion from the in educated. I know N.M. has won several law suits and avoided others by the anti’s and liberals. They were able to do it because they had science to back up what they are doing. I’m just hoping your State game and fish is going about it smartly. All this happened in N.M. because a group held a contest then piled all the dead out on BLM where anti/ non hunters found them. Gave hunters a heck of a black eye that ended up costing us.
  9. Just passed a bill to ban coyote contest in NM. Gov will sign, anti dems in charge here. Guess we will have rabbit calling now. Before you bash AZ game and fish think about what a study will do. It will show the calling contest do not harm nor affect the population. They will have science to back them. Best method to fight antis. Don’t know your commission but They might be helping more than you think.

    Backpack trip in Galiuros

We packed into powers cabin to coues hunt around 2010. We thought we were going to get some great hunting. Well the hunting was not so good, it’s so thick in there you can’t see chit, and hardly any water. Could have shot a medium 8 point but my mules decided to break my stock on the way in. No deer were harmed on that journey. We stayed at the cabin and it was surprisingly in good shape. Very cool trip and the OP should definitely do it. Country is very cool, and the history makes it more interesting. killed my first coues and my first 100+ in Coues In the Galiuros

    Hunt Tracker: New Mexico

Yeah we got on board with the money-making game at the expense of non residents. You only have to but the $4 stamp with the license. The $5 one is optional only needed if you are hunting on federal lands, which most of us are. Seems most state are going that direction

  14. The December hunts in NM are good hunts but I wouldn’t call them great hunts like the late December AZ hunts. They are the 2nd or 3rd Coues deer hunts depending on the unit so the deer have been hunted and pressured from 2 mule deer hunts. They are early December and not close to the rut. They are good because of low number of licenses and the hunts are long.

    7mm rebarrel

Other than some cool points you won’t gain anything from a hunting stand point from the other 7mm you mentioned. All are good and will do well. If you goal is to shoot the heavys fast then 28 Nosler is a great choice. It’s at a bigger cost to load with less barrel life. There is a cost and effect to all choices. But if it weee me I would do the 28 Nosler despite the extra cost, just cuz I like cool points!!

    Need New Mexico antelope tag

Yeah you can just go buy a private land only license over the counter now. You don't even need to have a ranch to hunt on, you can just buy one and then go ask or pay for access to private. Its going to be a wreck. Big private land ranches will manage there herds just fine, they always have. Its the 500-1000 acre deeded with 10,000 leased public land that are going to be the problem. This is a good year to get an antelope tag because our buck population and quality are going to take a big hit this coming season.

    Nosler LRAB

I shoot the 129 gr out of my 6.5-06 and they shoot one ragged hole. I shot a 2 inch group with them at 630 a month or so ago. We killed two cow elk, an antelope, and a Barbary with them all at closer ranges 80-250 yards. Bullets have a performed well. At close ranges they were about 50-60% retention (a couple were 75-80%) with front half on bullet fragments and rear half staying together under off side hide. I really like them. Will be shooting the 168 in my 280AI I'm building this year too.

    Arrow tree

We were bear hunting below the rim one time, dogs trailed up towards the rim and treed. When I was walking up to the tree I started seeing arrows all over the place. It turned out the dogs treed the bear right where all the missed shots at the arrow tree were going. There was arrows all over the place, Probably just as many that were in the tree. I thought it was pretty cool

Do we really need a border wall?

yeah I think the democrats are funding the sanction seekers. A wall wont fix anything, However killing drug dealers that are armed crossing our borders will. You down a few of those drug smugglers with an A-10 I guarantee you the problem will be over. We have the means, tech to do it. Why don't we treat this problem like terrorism because it really is. Makes you wonder why we don't fix it? I truly feel politicians fear the shock to the economy if you took all the drug money out
