Going to Euro mount my sons cow elk skull, am considering maceration vs boiling. How important is water movement for maceration? Could I put the skull into a water filled plastic tote with the lid on and leave it in my backyard for a few days before pressure washing it? Or is there more to the maceration process? If its skinned and brains removed before going into the water how rank will the smell be- as in my neighbors smelling it? I'm on a 1/3 acre residential lot, so they will be about 100 ft away from the property line.

My son and I came across these holes in 4b NW of drylake and wonder what caused them. The one on the right which the road wraps around is about 100 yards in diameter, didn't think to measure the depth, but they are deep, not just slight depressions.
