    Red jeep in 36A

Could the red jeep have been a sort of red ford ranger?

    Garrett's first buck!

Way to go Garrett! What more can a person say! I know when I met Garrett I was IMPRESSED at what a skilled hunter he was at such a young age!

    Weekend scouting trip

Well seems like you found a couple of shooters! Hope they are still there when your hunt comes around

    Noon Siesta or

Of course it depends on where I am hunting and how I am feeling, But I can say I find or see just as many deer moving from abou 11am to 3:30pm or so as I do at other times. If things are not working or feeling good with the back I'll glass from the truck and find high points or the best I can to drive to and glass from. You'll be surprized the amount or numbers of deer you'll see. I used to be one who would leave camp before daylight and return after dark. But now a days just can't do that style of hunting so I have adapted and still find and even kill some very nice bucks. So I say glass during the time of day when most people have left the field as the deer seem to know this as well and move then.

    AGFD and the Wolf

No but almost every sound we played while calling had them respond, so trying to call bear was a waste of time so to speak.

    AGFD and the Wolf

Well I just spent a week in unit 27 and have to say the Wolf program appears to be a joke from what I saw! We had the "lucK' of seeing several packs of the so called wolfs some with collars some or most without. It was the first time I have seen Mexican Wolfs with spots or tri-colored I sure wish I had had a camera with me to take pictures of them so I could post them.
  7. I live in the North end of 36A, Close to Pima Mine rd. & Mission. My hunt starts Nov 7th and goes to the 13th. My early scouting hasn't show me much here in the north end. But it seems the best scouting times are just begining for me. I know there was some nice bucks here last year after the season, which kind of surprized me with all the hunters that showed up last seasons. seems like the word got out on how to get into the area. I know I wish I had a Mule deer tag instead of a whitetail as I have seen a couple of three huge bucks in places you would never think they would be so to speak. Of course the fact that there are more mountain lions in this area than I would like to see. So if you plan on hunting the north end of 36a besure to get a mountain lion tag as well. aztrapper where at do you see a lot mountain lions? I've been trying to get one for a lot of years maybe you can help. Your right in the middle of Lion heaven!

    Predator Contest

The way things have been the last few years I wish they would put a zipper in my back. Plus they seem to know what tags i get as they always try and plan the deals for the middle of my hunts. But like I said we'll make the Predator Contest happen some how just maybe not the date we set.

  10. Ok I know we had planned and worked out the rules and set a date for our first Coues Whitetail Predator Hunting Contest. The problem that popped up is the fact I am going to have to have more back surgery and the date hasn't been confirmed yet BUT it looks like it will be right around the planned date. Until the exact date is set we will either have to put it on hold or someone else head it up. When I know the date forsure We can go from there and maybe move the date of our contest. What I am having done on my back is a new Spinal Stem Implant installed. This will put me out of action for a few days or so. What a spinal stem implant is- Its a unit installed in the back with wires running up the spine to the nerves, this allows me to send elec. shocks to the nerves to block the pain. The best way I can discribe the feel is kind of like the shock of a TENS unit or maybe like a lower shock from a spark pulg wire when you touch them. But as far as the contest we will just find a better date when I know the date or someone else can ramrod it. Let me know what everyone wants to do

    Long Range Shooting

My hunting set-up is a Remington 721 300 H&H mag with a custom barrel (1 inch bull 28 inches long) with a leupold T10 scope, and custom trigger. The load I shoot is a 168 grain Berger VLD with 68 grains of IMR 4350 which gives me sub 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards. I use 200 yards instead 100 for testing loads. I went Berger bullets several years ago and found I picked not only FPS but also is flatter shooting with the Berger than others. I have shot everything from pigs to elk with them and have always had one shot kills. I do try for the high shoulder shot as it will do everything I want even if I am off a little. I have tried Accubonds and could not get the gun to shoot anything better than 2-3 inchs at 200 yards so they were out, I myself want the bullet to enter the animal and "blow" up inside to release all of its engery inside and the Berger seems to work. The rifle has over 25 head of big game with the Berger and all have been one shot one step kills.
