Just keep at it. It will happen. Like mentioned before I think its realy hard to get in on them unless they remain in one spot, their bed. Not going to say that its not posible to stalk up on feeding deer. I've goten into bowrange before on feeding deer but its much more difficult, especialy when you have to lose sight of them to get into position. I will say that this was the first year I tried those, sneeke feet, or safari sneakers (which I have) and they help out a ton. I just can't bring myself to taking off my shoes while walking around in the desert. Good luck

I say keep politics out of science but we all know that its likely never going to be that way. -
I met Jed while I was working this past summer. Hes a great guy and one heck of a shot with his bow. I'm glad to see that he put a nice goat down. I know he put some time into his hunts. Congrats to him!

I woke up early to find the wind blowing hard in Tucson, thought o'great its going to be a windy day but to my suprise it was calm were I planed to hunt. I returned to the spot were I had seen a nice 80inch class buck and spoted him again. Him and his friend were on the move all moring changing directions a couple of times. I had to take long circle around the ridge a couple of times to try to keep up with then but I lost them about 8am. Stayed in that area till about 10am and things slowed down with ownly a few does sitings. All my homework was weighing on my head so I decided to head home. I was driving down the road at 50mph and something cought my eye, looks like a deer. I turn around, which I hardly do, and see it again, its was a deer but couldn't tell if it was a buck. I find a road about 250 yards down the road and pulled over. I start walking down the opisit ridge they were on and I got to were I thought they should be but didn't see anything. I was about to give up when a deer walks out from behind a tree at about 100yards, a small three point. Two other deer fallow, a fork and a spike. I sit down a watch as they walk along the ridge. They were moving pretty fast and I knew they were headed to shade. Luckly they found some nice shade trees 120 yards away and I watch them bed, the stalk was on. I used some very short catclaw bushes as cover and stalk within 30 yards were I ran out of cover. I know I had to make something happen there. I decided to draw my bow and try to make them stand. I grunted a few times and nothing happend. I then started yelling at them and that even took a few times before one stood up. The spike was the first to stand, big mistake. I had to thread the needle right over the top of a small bush. He was quartering away at a fairly sharp angle but being that close I decided to take a shot. I hit his neck taking out is jugular and spine which put him right down. I knew my truck wasn't that far away but to my suprise I saw it not 150 yards away. Luck was on my side. Earler that day when I was trying to keep an eye on the ther bucks I found a horseshoe and I thought to myself, that will bring me luck if I pick it up. Sure enough it did. I know this wasn't the most convetional coues hunt but thats the way it happened. I am still in disbeilf what i acualy did. Finnaly took one with my bow.

Might be true in some cases but the guy who shot the first reintroduced wolf in az, it was the defender of wildlife that pushed for a lawsuit but the game and fish decided there was no case. -

when I worked on fort huachuacas this past summer I always thought it was funny that all these illegals were walking through a US military base. -

I think lion season is still closed, isnt it? I believe it is year round. Could be wrong, but he appeared to be stalking me once he spotted me. Check the regs. you couldn't "harvest" a lion till monday. but if you felt your life was in danger and you feel you have no other options then I say shoot. But I think its smart to yell first rather then risk loseing your hunting privileges. -
Found it. In the right hand side a ways down. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/highlights/highlights_0602.html

Wasn't there a little article in one of the hunting highlights or wildlife views about this issue a little while ago? I thought I saved it but couldn't find it.

I saw some stuff at sportsmens that I beleive was 98% deet. Small red bottle.
-
I had a can of Cutter Advanced Sport, "oderless" that worked good. Only had a few chiger bites and all other bugs seemed to stay away. I doubt it was oderless to deer though. It did leave my hands a little stick if I rubed the stuff in if I didn't wash my hands though.

Might just depend on the buck and its mood. I shot at a spike that watched me draw way out in the open and didn't jump until my arrow hit the dirt behind him.

Also could listen for those cyotes that are screaming about a free meal. Hope you find him!

Man there has been some great bucks and some great stories so far this year but sadly I am one of the many who have to fill their tag… yet. I had a couple of close calls though. Opening days all I found were some does and one spike. I decided this year I was willing to take anything with antlers so I took after that spike, plus it was good practice. I blew that stalk. Later that day, in the middle of the day, I decided to still hunt from camp and jump a small 3 point in a creek bottom at 40 yards and he took off as I drew back. Next morning Casey showed up and he spotted a couple of good bucks but they were a ways off. He took off that afternoon and I decided since those were the only bucks we say that day I would try to get a closer look. Never did see them so I decided to walk back to camp pack up and try a new area for that evening. On the way back I stopped by a swamp and as I came to the edge a spike walked out at about 30 yards and I had to make a quick shot and shot right over his back. After packing up camp I headed to a new area that was a lot lower in elevation that I was hunting and within a couple of minutes I spotted a small fork and a nice 80 inch class buck. I was running out of light and took off after them. I was hoping to pop up over a small ridge and get a shot across the small canyon but by the time I got there they change direction and head up hill. I made a large loop around the other side of the hill they were on and was hoping to come right on top of them. I get to the top and found it much thicker then expected. Since they were up feeding I knew they could be about anywhere so I was moving slow scanning the area for anything that look tike a piece of a deer when I spot deer with its head down through a small opening in the brush. I thought, sweet their feeding and down know I’m here” but I was wrong. As I tried to clear they brush for a shot I saw a flash of the two bucks run away. DANG!!! SO CLOSE. I’m sold on the Sneaky Feet, they helped a ton! Those close calls have been on my mind for the last couple of days and I’m dying to get back out but with school starting I really don’t know when that will be. Hopefully this weekend. Any of you have any close calls you would like to share?

Man these are cool. I've always wanted to set my trail cam up and get some mulies but I haven't found a place that is remote enough so it wont get stolen or having the card fill up with cattle before a deer comes in.

Same here. We should have a good time.
